West Ham Crisis

YELLOW

Recommended Posts

With West Ham fans planning on boycotting some of their side's opening games at The Boleyn (the ground, I don't mean the pub!!) over the sale of key players, will this have a positive effect on the non league clubs in the area?

With many West Ham fans becoming disillusioned with the problems at Upton Park and walking away from it all will we see an increase in attendances at the likes of Hornchurch?

Certainly the Hornchurch/Upminster area is a Hammers heartland (you only have to see the amount of Hammers fans getting on the train at Upminster on a Saturday afternoon to agree). Will these people stop going to an overpriced and generally ambitionless club to follow upwardly mobile clubs in that area such as Hornchurch and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Certainly when West Ham went through all their problems last season, Dagenham's crowds increased quite well.

The Hammer's fall from grace may well be to Hornchurch's advantage.

Even if there wasn't a mass boycott, there are many who don't want too pay £30 odd quid to watch first division football. If there is a successful club right on their 'doorstep' such as Hornchurch, Daggers even Canvey they might start watching these clubs on a more regular basis.

During my time at university I went to many West Ham games. My student membership allowed me to watch Premiership games for as little as £14 but unfortunately after I left I had to pay full adult rate

In the last couple of seasons I've followed Canvey on a regular basis at home and away and thus rarely watch the Hammers now. This season I've not bothered to renew my Hammers' Supporters club membership.

I imagine that there could be a few more people like me who abandon the glamour of the Premiership and start watching their local non league sides.

I didn't realise their tickets were so cheap!

Leaving university just because you had to pay full price to watch West Ham seems a little excessive!

Now, now, cheeky girl, you know what I mean! I'm not even going to try to explain what I meant.

You're right about £30! More like £40!

Gone down in fact, all of three quid!!!

It's still £37 to watch a first division match. Ridiculous!
