As I have said on other threads, I am becoming embarressed to be a Chelsea supporter.

 

In theory, if Veron and Cole complete transfers tonight, we would be in a position to field TWO premiership winning sides !

I can't help feeling that all our signings COULD spell the death knell of football below the top five or six sides in the premiership

It is about time the FA put a ban on squads over a certain size (30?) or as you say, the top four sides in the Premiership will be cornering the market. Cole and Veron will be numbers 39 and 40 for Chelsea!

The ending "-kov" is more of a Balkan thing. In Bulgaria, women add an "a" to the end of their surname. Had Hristo Stoichkov, for example, been born a woman, his (or indeed her) name would have been Hristo Stoichkova. Conversely, had Martina Navratilova been born a man (insert joke here), "her" name would have been Navratilov.

 

Russians are more eclectic with their surnames, though I would guess that the most likely Russian-style ending to a surname would be "-ev" or "-enko/opko".
