Correct. On the day of the escape Reg went to the hospital dressed exactly the same as his brother Ron and when it came for visiting time to finish Ron casually got up and walked out leaving his brother behind.

 

When the staff at the hospital found out what had happened all they could do was let Reg go as he was furious that the hospital could let this happen. All an act of course.

 

On the out side all they had to do was keep Ron quite for six weeks and he was, to a certain extent, free.
