Trivial Pursuit

"Playing at the heart of the Juventus defence behind the great forward trio of Boniperti, Hansen and Praest, Carlo Parola was an indispensable member of the teams which won the Italian national Championship in 1950 and 1952. He was also an outstanding international player.

However for all his achievements he will probably be remembered for an enduring football image - that of him executing the famous bicycle kick - which adorned the front cover of Italy’s popular Panini soccer sticker books from 1950 onwards. A player noted for his acrobatic athleticism and for his ebullient personality on the field, Parola is credited with being the first player to regularly use the spectacular back-flip overhead kick at the top level of professional soccer. He used it to good effect in a Fiorentina v Juventus match in 1950 and the kick found an everlasting place in Italian football iconography.

He made his debut for Juventus in 1939 and his career was almost immediately blighted by the War. His fame really took off after 1950, helped by the association of playing for such a fine team and also by the adoration of young fans influenced by the Panini album covers."

This is the trouble when you set a subjective question.

New question. answer was theBrazilian football legend Leonidas da Silva, credited with inventing the overhead kick, died in Sao Paulo at the age of 90 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. The former striker known as the ‘’Black Diamond’’ played for Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s and was the top scorer of the 1938 World Cup with eight goals.

You set a new one - you were the last to get one right - but it is easier if there is a definitive answer rather than someone else's opinion. The writer of my chap's biography clearly disagrees with your source but nowt we can do about that.
