British Airways Strike

Recommended Posts

I was mortified this morning (thursday) to learn that the weak Court of Appeal had incredibly overturned an injunction obtained by British Airways preventing the uncalled for strike and that heartless cabin crew would walk out for five days from next Monday. The strikes had been due to start this week but BA had successfully gained an injunction at the High Court to prevent it from starting however a 'Judge' today accepted the Union Unite's appeal against the injunction, the initial High Court ruling to impose an injunction was passed when the Judge rightly ruled that Unite had failed to properly inform balloted cabin crew members about spoilt ballot papers. Unite's Arthur Scargill like Joint General Secretaries, namely Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley, said today "British Airways management now have a chance over the next three days to address our outstanding concerns and seize the possibility for industrial peace. We hope it has the wisdom to do so but failing that cabin crew will once more be taking industrial action with our full support."

Well bring back Margaret Thatcher as a starter for ten to quosh the Unions for a second time, they already think they have got their foot back in the door

Would it make you feel better if all us working class scum also had to touch our forlocks every time we see our betters, perhaps we could also bring back the birch and cat of nine tails to use on those pesky strikers, and please don't get me started on woman being allowed to vote and Johny Foreigners.

I was under the impression that dinosaurs were extinct but now I'm not so sure.

Officialspokesman - Forgive me but I'm not quite sure what you are getting at in your post, surely you don't want the Unions to start running the Country again like they used to before Margaret Thatcher put them in their place

Actually I am, and I honestly believe they couldn't do a worse job.

To many of us Thatcher was a monster who destroyed families and communities in the name of greed and right wing dogma.

thatcher was and still remains a legend, under her we had a country to be proud of,a country that stood up for its beliefs and she quashed the unions single handedly when they were at their most dangerous levels.

Plus the country was safer because she was tough on law and order

Buzzardboy - I couldn't agree more, well said, the Country has gone downhill ever since that infamous day when she left Number 10 with a tear in her eye and a knife in her back culminating in 'Broken Britain' today with law and order and imigration out of control

Typical white van man, brainless and bigoted.

Thatcher never destroyed the unions and no one ever could because the only way ordinary working class people get anything is by sticking together.

what is it with the working classes, they always feel like someone is out to get them.

Perhaps if some realised that you don't just have to go to work, join a union, get told what to do and when to do it and actually strive for more you might just get somewhere in life.

Look at that pratt bob crowe, just about sums unions and the idiots that run them up.

Lets face it,millions in this country are up in arms because they now have to pay a slightly higher rate of tax under the tories because, wait for it.....the tories believe that those who actually work hard for themselves shouldn't be hit with high taxes like they are under labour. Why should the people that work hard, make something of themselves pay through the roof for those that are just happy to poodle along in their own little world,or scrounge after the government, which lets face it,has been a walk in the park for thousands for the last decade

Just for the record, I am a 'Life' member of UNISON, and believe in unions to 'protect' the working man.

With reference to the above confrontation, regarding the miners, that was a NO-WIN contest, with Thatcher (she who would never 'U'-Turn) up against Scargill, a man who had only his own agenda and advancement at heart.

As far as the BA strike is concerned, I have a feeling this one might just go the same way as the miners strike, with no winners in the end, at all !

I spent all my working life in a unionised environment and because of it I now have an index linked final salary pension, a comfortable lifestyle, my own home, and much much more.

Thanks to the labour movement all my kids had a great, free education and are doing well for themselves, and my wife and son survived cancer, all thanks to a free and properly funded health service that was founded by the Labour party.

I owe the unions and labour movement everything, and Thatcher nothing.

There was a time I would have supported the strikers... but when I look at this particular event, I feel that my support is with the cabin crew etc of all the other airlines, and certainly not with the BA ones. They are the top of the tree in regards to these jobs, with perks etc that the others could only dream of.. but it wasn't enough for them.

I think this strike will be broken, and I also suspect that there are cabin crew etc of all the other companies looking at a potential job in the future.

well i had a great free education as did my sister under the tories,i also know people who survived cancer under the tories who were treated well by the nhs at the time,so i dont see what your point is??With regards to the unions, yes they look after their members but fck the rest. Many go out on strike at the first available opportunity because they are forced to,and if you don't toe the line the union leaders make those that don't feel very uncomfortable

this latest strike is a joke,as are the majority of strikes, you know what you are taking on when you go into a job,you know that some sectors every know and then will face cuts because of an economic climate like now, just get on with it,i am sure those striking are not having a problem putting clothes in the wardrobe or food on the table

Don't suppose we could ever agree on anything.

Ive been on strike lots of times while people thought it OK to carry on working and are happy to reap the benefits while there so called work mates made all the sacrifices.

Its not just the union leaders that make scabs feel uncomfortable, its also their ex workmates.

Once a scab, always a scab in my book, and I for one would never ever have anything to do with one.
