According to the hemel forum they approcahed BAteman and he turned them down and now they are after Colin Payne the hitchin manager :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin: :signthankspin:

Even if Hemel are reprieved can't see why Colin Payne would go from a well run club with money to spend to a pot-less sinking ship that is poorly run.

Not sure Bateman was approached, I think it was just a rumour and wishful thinking on their forum.

Well it seems as though I may have been wrong and they may have approached Bates as Colin Payne has suprisingly left Hitchin for Hemel:

Be interesting to see if any follow him, and also if Hemel do stay up due to problems at other clubs at Sothern Premier level.

Bit gob-smacked.

I would have thought Hitchin had a much bigger budget than Hemel. Will probably no doubt lead to a merry-go-round of players from Hitchin to Hemel.

Just got to hope SB is not tempted by the Hitchin job.

Which doesn't make complete sense. Players cannot resign until the forms are out anyway, which isn't until July time I believe.

Then perhaps Tom you can enlighten un-informed people like myself a little further.

I'm only going by what I have read in the non league papers and on other forums that players are re-signing for clubs and being transferred to/from other clubs.

Well I can only assume its either contractual or a gentleman's agreement. It maybe different league to league but in previous seasons the Southern League doesn't release forms until June/July time. Having checked, Bateman last season announced his first signings mid June.

You will see plenty of cases over the summer where players agree to "sign" for a club only to go elsewhere take Chris Herron for example, agreed to sign for Hemel last season which they announced on their site in May he then joined Slough once forms were released.

We don't officially announce squad information on the site until a player has signed forms and its been confirmed by the league. Otherwise you end up with situations we have had in the past, where as another example, Errol Telemaque agrees to join but then signs for Staines before signing forms.

Zamaretto League forms were issued to club secretaries before the season had finished but the league will not register any players prior to July 1st.

If a player signs a form prior to that and subsequently signs forms with another club, the earliest dated form has what's called priority of registration even if it's not officially registered with any league which means the club the player then signed first for can demand a 7-day approach before anyone else can talk to him. Any dispute between clubs would be referred to the FA but the player concerned WILL be fined and possibly suspended as it's quite reasonable to expect a player to remember any paperwork he has signed recently.

Those are the rules but the simple facts are that everyone talks to everyone during the close-season [even contracted players who shouldn't be approached under any circumstances] which generally means a 'free for all' and who's offering a tenner more each week!

Thanks for that information Windsor Sec.

So just to re-cap, the registration forms are available and even though, once signed, they cannot be registered until 1st July, any other club thats interested in signing that player has to make a 7 day approach, very much like they would have to do if the player was registered.

Reading Rebel - we've never been big spenders. The only way we are able to attract good players is by getting more local support through the gate, having suits who keep a tight hold of the purse strings and a voluntary supporters trust to increase a rather small playing budget even at this level. Its a well run club and the reason why a little market town like Hitchin has long-term ambitions of Blue Square South.

Hemel don't seem to have any of those things - poor attendance for a very large town, huge player turn-over and money coming into the club to try and buy their way up the ladder. Dean Brennen, Luther Blissett and now Colin Payne. CP never had a great relationship with the supporters or most of the players despite 100 points and had a volatile side like when he booted a ball at Salts or when he wanted to fight some of our supporters who critised him at the end of the previous season when we lost to Hemel. Not to mention our star striker and crowd favourite at the time leaving the club soon after CP took over because he couldn't work with him. If some of our better players go to Hemel with him then we will be left with players who want to play for the town and that is the most important thing.

At the end of the day, he was manager when we were relegated last season and he was manager when we failed to go back up so its not like the bottom has fallen out the club.

Now both sets of our supporters have another depressing set of fixtures to wait for until the fun begins in August...

Yellows, appologies. What I meant when i said you have money to spend was that you have a healthy playing budget for a team at our level. As you say, mainly due to good crowds and money from your supporters trust contributions.
