Grays in ESL for 10/11?

Recommended Posts

One of my sources tells me that Grays are being dumped into the ESL for next season.

Has anyone heard anything similar to back this up?

Well they're certainly not in the Ryman Premier or Division One North lists (subject to final appeal) published today. Nothing on their website forum on the subject either.

Grays missing from top league listings

THE future of Grays Athletic remains uncertain after the FA Leagues committee announced its provisional league structures for next season.

The Blues had hoped to be included in the Ryman League structure, preferably in the Premier Division, but they are not included in that list, announced today.

They are also not in the Blue Square South meaning they are likely to be placed in the Essex Senior League, details of which have not yet been released.

If that happens, it appears likely that Grays will aim for a groundshare with Tilbury, itself a club wracked in off-field turmoil at the moment, rather than the expected move to East Thurrock, which does have Ryman premier ground-grading.

The FA have stressed that there are a number of outstanding issues still to be resolved and the listings may be subject to subsequent change.

The future of Grays and where they will play remains uncertain after the FA Leagues committee announced its provisional league structures for next season.

The Blues had hoped to be included in the Ryman League structure, preferably in the Premier Division, but they were not included in that list and the FA have now confirmed with the Enquirer that they have placed Grays in the Essex Senior League.

"I can confirm that Grays have been placed in Step Five and that means they will be placed in the Essex Senior League," said an FA spokesman.

That is likley to mean that Grays will aim for a groundshare with Tilbury, itself a club wracked in off-field turmoil at the moment, rather than the expected move to East Thurrock, which was their likley destination if they had achieved the higher placement as Rocks' Rookery Hill ground does have Ryman Premier ground-grading.

The FA have stressed that there are a number of outstanding issues still to be resolved and the listings may be subject to subsequent change.

Two teams celebrating a repieve are Harlow and Leyton, who remain in the Ryman North despite finishing in the relegation positions.

They are there because VCD Athletic have been demoted back to step five after failing to complete their ground improvements on time, while Stansted, who won the Essex Senior League, done have a ground of the required standard.

It had been thought that Witham Town, who finished second, would return to the Ryman North, but they appear to have missed out in the reshuffle.

A spokesperson for Essex FA was not able to confirm exactly why Witham had not gone up, nor to confirm that Grays Athletic will be joinging the league. "We haven't been informed by the FA of that yet," he said.

Statement released by Grays Athletic on their forum

The club are shocked to have found out via our own website that we have not been accepted into the Ryman setup.

It's a total tuck up and a proper liberty what has gone on here.

They refused us on 3 accounts:-

1) The application was not in by the 1st April in accordance with rule 5.2

We asked them why they never told us straight away and the reply was "That's a fair point" Mike Appleby doesnt think we fall into this as we are seeking Voluntary relegation not moving league which would have put us out of time.

2) The Committee is of the opinion when we withdrew from the conference we had withdrawn from The National league System totally

Their opinion isnt fact so its Irrelevant

3) No confirmation of a home ground for next season.

This is a total lie The club ,Mickey Woodward, Benny Bennett and John Coventry of East Thurrock have spoken to Bruce Badcock and Mr Robinson at the Ryman league about ground ground sharing and Mr Badcock had confirmed that he had received the relevant documentation and at no time had they told us there was any problems with applications, timmings and anything else to do with the application.

The outgoing owner Mike Woodward spoke to the Ryman Chairman to let him know he has nothing to do with the club anymore and to look fairly on the new ownership and it was agreed there was no problems between the Ryman league and Mike Woodward or Grays Athletic

Andy Swallow spoke to Mike Appleby a few moments ago and Mr Appleby who heads the league committee is of the opininon that the league have got it wrong.

We are not asking to move leagues we are asking for voluntary relegation.

Mr Appleby is wiling to be a witness for us with our appeal if needs be to the European Court of Appeal and beyond as its a total liberty that a lot of time and money has be spent to be treated like this.

We also have numerous witnesses that will help us get ther truth out

Andy has stated that regardless of what league we get put into we will still play as Grays Athletic and will not be driven out by this discraceful treatment of our club and we will leave no stone unturned until we get proper justice and is this now time for us to reform as Grays 1890 and start again.

Andy will be on The Non League show tonight on the radio at 9pm, so please listen to hear is opinion, it should be interesting to listen to, to say he isnt happy is an understatement

Is this for real, the mention of 1st April may be a clue?

I think they are referring to step 9 as ESL.

My guess is their supporters know very little about the non-league structure.

It was never going to be Ryman Premier - if they had of gone into Ryman Premier then certain clubs would have had grounds for complaint as they were treated differently.

They should go into Ryman One North. Most clubs who have taken voluntary relegation have gone no lower than Ryman One North.

If they were to reform, then that's a different matter.

Not sure why Witham are not being allowed into Ryman One North.
