Dorking FC 2010 - 2011

Recommended Posts

nothing left to get angry about now really.

may be a good chance to get some opinions though.

Go back a few seasons and DFc were mid table CoCo prem, and it wasnt really good enough for many.

Whats happened since is well known here, but two bottom finishes in the coco prem isnt progress.

There must have been close to 200 players in the last 3 seasons and maybe a dozen appearances by local lads.

The thought was that the local players werent good enough.

Well neither were the other guys in the prem, and the general view at the club (amongst supporters I spoke with) was why get a bunch of lads from Croydon/Sth London to lose every week when we see Dorking boys doing well for other sides?

Where is the commitment, why run chase lost causes for a club you know nothing of?

Why would someone from Dorking watch a side full of guys they know nothing about, why would their bosses sponsor them, why would their mates come and watch them?

So what do you guys think?

At Dorkings level is there any point in bringing in players from miles away ( worlds away really)

Should a club like Dorking find its level using local players ( say within a Guildford, Leatherhead, Redhill, Horsham area) and see where that takes them?

When I say local I dont mean the family have lived here since King John, but local as in you live here or work here.

you might be surprised who has more extreme views on it than me!

I should say that a couple of the lads always had their families with them, home and away win or lose, playing or on the bench.

The side that got promoted were committed and the day they thought theyd missed out (at Farleigh I think) proved that.

No slanging match from me, Im wondering about other clubs, we have guys from Bookham and Horley on here and I wonder how village sides look at it?

Also how franchise sides such as MVSCR at Cobham recruit players?

How far do South Park guys travel?

Dorking in the firing line, yet again ! I LOVE IT !

RIGHT.

May I make it quite clear that applications for the role as first team manager remain open and that no appointment has been or will be made until all applications are in and interviews held etc.

No decision of any kind has been made with respect to the identity of the manager and the club has an open mind as to who should be appointed depending on who comes forward.

Peter Augustine is remaining with the club. Some of you may already know that he has a busy schedule with a rather well known Premiership club, and I'm NOT talking Combined Counties.

A further post will be made in due course.

Rusty nice to see another view of Dorking's Dilemma,a solution will not be easy, the problem may be made worse if they are not Relegated this year, which is still a possibility. How would any prospective Manager be able to plan,is there a Budget,at the moment there are too many imponderables for any Decent Manager to throw his hat in the ring.

New poster here.

Would the same apply to Guildford City as they seem to have a management and group of players from Croydon and no connection to Guildford?

welcome game of 2 halves

In the 2 seasons Dorking finished bottom Guildford finished 2nd and 7th.

I dont know your current set up but last time I saw the side it had a mixture of youth and experience from mainly local area.

If Guildford wish to compete at the top end and there aren't the local players, ( with Woking having stolen Guildfords thunder)

then I can see why they go further afield.

My point is I could get 15 guys from the Sunday pub league to finish bottom of the league 2 seasons on the trot, why get players with no connection to the club to do that?

SCR a franchise side!!!!! :97:

All of our squad are mates or knew each other anyway, they are also mostly from the Sutton( the S in SCR) area or from Croydon, also the bulk of the squad have been together for 4 or 5 seasons. The main way we recriut is like this although the ex dorking boys came mostly because of our coach( even though a few of the lads knew them well anyway)

We'll need some more recruits this summer might have to get the old address book out!!

Being new,a quick question?

I watch plenty of games in Kent League,CoCo Rymans etc...what baffles me is.

1/A club like Dorking admirable as it may be stick with Managers who have settled, fine. But the Management settled in the bottom of the league, they had plenty of games to get new blood in ,so why not change?

2/The players recruited from Croydon etc......obviously not good enough as proved...results dont lie, some cringing heavy defeats.again why continue with same staff? I am really baffled???

Outgoing management staying at club, why? What benefit is it?Surely a complete restructure is what DFC need...New ideas and views. Please this is not a dig its just an onlookers view. There are plenty of lads nestling in Leatherheads ressies,Merstham etc.............that would fancy it,surely...........

3/Guilford City bulk come from Sutton/Carshalton etc......not Croydon...........they have acheived well this season.

4/Redhills success, and yes I have seen them aswell this season,is attributed to one fact, the bulk of the players 75% are all from South East London and a couple from Croydon.Very very few are home grown.

5/And finally its all about the Coach and how the lads perform for him....money gets you the service of maybe a quality mercernary but it doesnt guarantee you the success....

hey joe!

I can try to answer some of those.

Dorking stuck with the manager through the first season of relegation and were rewarded with immediate promotion, which bought him some time.

When he quit, the wrong guy was put in and that was dealt with quickly ( a couple of games!).

The new management were mainly youth orientated and didnt really hack it at senior level, partly due to other commitments they couldnt attend all the matches.

They are staying at the club I hope ( I dont know) to help with bringing youth through.

Why continue with the same playing staff? They didnt really but when players left they were replaced with similar guys, who couldnt get games elsewhere.

With the odd exception they clearly werent good enough and should never have got into the 1st team.

We had better players watching!

In the two examples you give, getting players from SE london is more understandable , Redhill a v good season in Sussex 1, and Guildford finishing 7th , last season they were 2nd bottom.

A very big playing budjet at Redhill helps most local Ryman clubs can not compete with them

Thanks TSF for your honest analysis. As far as DFC is concerned, we are in the throes of re-structuring and in the process of recruiting a first team Manager so it would really be wrong for me to comment too much.

We are bringing our two Under 18's coaches/managers more into the set-up of the 1st Team and getting them more involved. I for one, intend to spend more time watching the Under 18's next season from the bench angle.

As I said in an earlier post, there will be another statement from the club shortly. A lot still depends on the Ryman League and their on-going discussions.

staff of his own.Sometimes you just have to install a loose canon to address the faults within.

Redhill's money undoubtedly will bring them success Redhill and Guildford both have had fine seasons, with the input of S/E players,my point is can a club like DFC not go for broke and attract maybe an U/18's S/E team to play for them.It is highly commendable that you are bringing through your U/18 coaches etc.....but I just checked there season wow!! What an eye opener, bottom in the SYL,but again you are continueing with the same batches of staff? That is what I really, really cannot get a grip on.BOTH of these teams were to put it mildly very, very disapointing to say the least,IMO I would be scouring the streets of S/E london trying to entice decent players,as this seems to be a far better prospect than whats currently on sale at DFC.

and would your new manager not view their failures as a reason to install next season,a decent striker is what they need and according to the local rags, they have taken the leagues top goalscorer Andrew Dalehouse on for next season! The team he leaves can thank there lucky stars that his goals kept them in the Div 1.So thats a great coup for Redhill!!!

I do like how both Guildford and Redhill try to play as with Chertsey and Camberley,I just wonder how many local lads play for the better footballing teams????

A club now understands it needs to widen its net!!!
