In the close season it's good to have a reason to pop into the forum from time to time.

From the responses to the regular change of my avatar there seem to be a few music fans frequenting the forum, so what's on your playlist at the moment?

My most recent ones have been:

The Seal Cub Clubbing Club - Super Science Fiction

Bloody awful (if supposedly memorable) name but a damned good album from a band that no-one seems to have heard of.

Dinosaur Jr - Farm

An absolute cracker of an album. Generally when bands have been going for 20 years and have split up the reformed band is a shadow of its former self, but quite the opposite with J Mascis and Co - the guitar work on this is just brilliant and every track is catchy. No fillers like they had in older albums. Proper guitar based Rock and Roll.

Airbag - Identity

Italian alternative / prog rock band I'd never heard of until recently. Very much modelled on Dave Gilmour's guitar. Pretty decent album.

All these are on the fantastic Spotify so if you've got it, do yourselves a favour and have a listen. Feedback and your recommendations welcomed!

I like Sealclubbing by Half Man Half Biscuit - does that count? It's got brilliant lyrics.

Meanwhile my last musical efforts were piecing together the live tracks from Genesis 1976 and 1978 tours on Youtube, in order according to the discography to get near-complete set lists. So I'm well up to date there.

Dansilk, have you discovered Wolfgang's Vault?

Plenty of live Genesis stuff there from down the decades - as far as I can tell none of it on general release.

Not just for Genesis fans, it's a huge resource of live music, available for free. Well worth a look. It's a while since I registered but I recall it's a quick and easy process.

Wiki gives a little insight... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfgang's_Vault

Pink Floyd fans should check this out from 1970....

http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/pink-floyd/concerts/fillmore-west-april-29-1970.html

There's even a Radio Station playing selections from the thousands of concerts in the vault.

PS Most of the content is probably for the more mature rock fans...

Yashin - Put Your Hands Where I can See Them (Screamo / Post Hardcore)

Isahn - After (IHSAHN comes from Notodden, Norway, where he at the age of 13 started playing in what developed into one of the world’s most influential black metal bands, EMPEROR. At only 17 he recorded and performed “In the Nightside Eclipse”, which has been many times over voted one of the top metal albums of all time. Since then, IHSAHN has divided his time between the metal and avant-garde worlds in projects like EMPEROR, THOU SHALT SUFFER, PECCATUM and HARDINGROCK. With IHSAHN’s ongoing solo project he completed a musical trilogy with the album “After” in 2010. In addition to his work as a musician, he teaches guitar, writes columns for Guitar world and is together with partner Heidi S. Tveitan running Mnemosyne Productions and Symphonique studio.)

Alesana - The Emptiness (Alesana is a post-hardcore band from Raleigh, North Carolina. They have released one EP, and 5 of the 7 songs on that EP were used in 2 of their full length albums. The band has released 3 full length albums to date.)

When I said Woody in previous post, I meant Humpty...

Just listened to Yashin, Put Your Hands Together. The rock music itself is pretty damned good, but I've never been able to get on with the gutteral screaming so I doubt it's something I'll put on a preferred playlist! Still, my first post hardcore album so the thread has taken me somewhere new which can't be bad...

I've got AngL by Ihsahn lined up now. Not sure I'll be able to cope with another whole album of heavy metal but I'll let you know!

I mainly get told how crap the music is I listen to so for you to actually look them up and listen is very cool.

Listen to the last track of the Yashin album. It is a Britney cover and it is amazing.

Isahn is Jazz/Death metal and is just plain weird but enough to keep me listening all the way to the end of the album.

I am a mailnly hardcore screamo fan so most of the stuff I have has that gutteral screaming. I am mainly into the guitar sound of that genre and not so bothered vocals.

I am not one dimensional though and will listen to just about anything

Other bands to check out could be Poison The Well, E-town Concrete, Killswitch Engage, Atreyu & Avenged Sevefold (before they went mainstream and all GNR sounding)

The new Slash album is worth a check out too
