A reluctant goodbye..for now

Hey everyone. . .its Platty.

Ive hardly been on this site since I got a bit of a slating at the start of the season after the Abingdon gamebut thought Id put a post on here to say a thank you to everyone!! - as Ill be leaving the club (for) now.

Ive had a really enjoyable time here at slough (within reason i.e. it being disappointing and frustrating not living up to pre-season expectationsfrom both fans and players).

The support you guys give and show is quite amazing especially considering our league position and some of our performances this season.

I want to say a special thank you to Gary Thomas, and sweets, as if it wasnt for them, I wouldnt have been at slough this season! When I found out in March of 2008 that I would be moving to the south (for those of you dont know, Im from Cheshire and so as Jacko likes to say, Im a northern monkey! and I have to return there in July, and return to university in Manchester in September) I emailed 4 or 5 clubs in the area, and although 3 replied (slough being one) it was the interest and effort that both Gary and Sweets showed and put in me that I chose Slough, and Im glad I did. And to clear up another rumour. . .the reason why I didnt go to Windsor a couple of months agothere were two reasons for this, one, because of what I have already said about how much the club wanted me in the first place and therefore I kind of felt I owed them, and secondly, and kind of selfishly as it was a big reason, I wanted to pick up the club golden boot award (my target at the start of every season), even though (as I found out last night) the club doesnt award a golden boot award, this was more than made up for by the player of the year runner-up award! (not sure I deserved it, but its appreciated - Im gutted and a little embarrassed I never managed to reach 20 goals!

Ill probably receive a lot of stick off the boys on Thursday for posting this, but hey, Ill take itIve been a nightmare to them at times this season so I deserve to get a bit of stick. . .prime example whenever I am on the bench. I can officially say, at them times I am probably the worst person to be aroundmoody / pi**ed off / etc etc!!! (thats where the dummy in mouth celebration came from earlier in the seasonI spat my dummy out in a big way when I was put on the bench the week before, and so in training harps brought in a dummy for me, for banter). at the end of the day, I just want to play football, not sit on a bench.

Think Ive said enough now anyway, again just want to say a big thank you for your support this season. Really hope the team performs as well as the fans next season, and a promotion push is on the cards.

Ps, Ill be out of the country from this evening until Thursday, so Ill look forward to reading any responses (and getting stick off the boys) from Thursday. am saying this in case someone else (anonymous) tries to post as me.

Hopefully see you season 2010/11,

Regards, Platty.

Anyone remember this posting from a season ago? I wonder if Bateman will call Platty soon and see if he's coming back down south next season as indicated last year before someone else snaps him up. Yes the season has only just finished but I think he would score a lot of goals in this team IMO.

That's funny, Kay and I were talking about Platty on the way home yesterday speculating the same thing. He's the "fox in the box" we don't really have in the current squad and I'd love to see him back.

All season Elliot Buchanan and Sean Sonner have been crying out for some big physical presence to play alongside up front i.e. a Ian Hodges type player.

Whilst I too would love to see Matthew Platt back, I wonder if he's too similar to the forwards we have already got.

Totally agree with that. I think we do need a big targetman but I think the addition of Platt to the squad could take the pressure off Elliot at times as he scores goals and sometimes goals out of nothing. Our other strikers have struggled in front of goal to score, and create chances for themselves at times this season.

There's also a guy at Chalfont (who missed out on promotion) called Charlie Strutton who bagged 30-goals for them this season. Meant to be the next big thing to come out of Chalfont after Bradley Bubb and Terrell Lewis.

It would be brilliant and very shrewd to get Platty back. He scored 20 odd goals in a fairly poor team. I think he could score plenty with service from the likes of Sincy, Mo and Elliot.
