Anyone for Snooker

Now the football season is done and dusted shall we talk about something else?

So, the World No 1 has been caught by a NOTW sting.

I suppose it's a shock that Higgins is involved (who'd a thought it of him?) but it's no surprise - betting / fixing on individual frames gives the offender the chance to reconcile his conscience that he still did everything to win the match.

As I have said many times over the years, where there is betting on the outcome of sporting events there is corruption. It's just ridiculous to think otherwise.

Here's the full story in the NOTW. Claims by Mooney that they were in fear for their safety ring just a little hollow. Russian Mafia? Yeah right, all the indications of the transcripts and the video suggest you were in fear of your lives. Scummy cheating Scottish bastards.

Mooney seems to be implicating loads of players. A way of getting players' co-operation is to suggest the result needs to be 5-3 to fill the TV schedule. The other players' names he favours for such a deal are blanked out but he is suggesting that loads of them will do it, although he says the top players are more difficult to work with....

Difficult but not impossible is the implication there.

Oh dear oh dear.

Steve Davis is probably the only straight one in the game. Bet he's wondering about that straight green Higgns missed into the centre pocket this morning...

Attendance at Athletics events dropped off markedly as the drugs scandals took hold, I suspect this might have the same impact on snooker. And Barry Hearn just might decide it's a losing battle and duck out of his new role.

Whilst they come from North of the Border, is the stereotypical outrage that someone not from the south that has been apparently caught cheating really necessary? Poor show son, poor show!

Oh good grief it's just a chuckaway comment born out of contempt and hatred of their activities here. They are Scottish and they are scummy cheating bastards in my view. Hence putting the words together.

I should have realised that in this world of PC gone mad that comment would attract more attention than the corruption of the 2 individuals involved..

Did someone say attendances at athletics went DOWN? Is that actually possible? The only time people go to athletics is when the olympics or commonwealth games are on, or if the world cup or world games or whatever takes place and there is a big race.

As for cheating, every sport does it despite their cries of "our sport is clean". All the papers love to slate football for its diving and acting etc (which is indeed pathetic and embarrassing) but really is it worse than taking a blood capsule and then pretending you were hit or kicked, or a golfer "accidentally" placing his golf ball back in the wrong, and slightly more advantageous position. All these sportmen./athletes need to get over themsleves and realise how extremely lucky they are to be doing something millions of people can only dream of doing.

Whatever next, swimmers pretending to forget how to swim, divers getting vertigo. taking drugs and taking bribes are not heat of the moment actions but they are premeditated cheating actions and as such should result in a permanent ban from all professional sports.

As for the comment, you can call him a b@st@rd, you can call him a cheating b@st@rd, you can even call him a scummy cheating b@st@rd, but heaven forbid point out where he came from because that is insulting? Something not quite right here.....
