Play Off Final v Concorde

We didnt want to play with the big boys anyway.

Still I think that Mr Happy's summation of the game is closer than EU.

I think that if Stuart didn't go down so easily when on goal looking for the pen/free kick he would get more given as it is even the concorde fans next to me said that the second pen shout was a definite pen. Why did not the ref see it?

And what was the free kick all about that led to the third goal. I do agree that I was a long way from the incident but then so was the ref, he was well behind he play, and the lino didn't seem to indicate anything?

As it is over the season Concorde deserved to go uo as they finished second whilst we finished 4th. 6 points behind them.

Match Report

Concord Rangers (2) 3 Easterford 5, King 20, Heale 90

Enfield Town (0) 1 S.Blackburne 49 (p)

Attendance 752

Enfield Town could not recreate their strong start from the semi final and instead it was last season’s play off finalists Concord Rangers who raced to an early lead. Two goals up after only twenty minutes, Concord looked comfortable until Enfield finally started to get into the game. Town had chances and Stuart Blackburne hit the post before eventually getting a goal back from the penalty spot. But when a second penalty appeal was turned down, Town’s hopes seemed to vanish with it. Concord regained their composure as the game wore on and added a third late on to seal things.

With only five minutes gone Michael Bardle conceded a free kick on the right and Lyle Taylor fired a free kick to the near post for John Easterford to head home. Rob Blackburne got a hand to it but could only turn into the roof of the net. Concord’s Danny Heale fired over on the turn, while Town’s Andy Jones played the ball wide to Stuart Blackburne but his ball back into the middle was fired wide. Ashley Millar made a good run into the box only to shoot straight at Blackburne and as Concord increased the pressure, Millar hit the cross bar and King followed up for the second goal. Enfield finally started to get into the game, Stuart Blackburne’s pace causing problems. Marks and Blackburne both had shots blocked before Blackburne was bundled over on the edge of the box. Bardle curled the free kick just over, then hit a second just round the post. Ben Hammond picked out Mark Kirby with a cross from the right, but Kirby’s header was deflected over off Marvin Samuels. Paul Marks then threaded the ball through for Blackburne to beat Dale Brightly only to see the ball hit the post. Taylor flashed a dangerous shot across the Enfield goal as Concord finished th ahlf still in control.

Concord looked for a quick start to the second half, with Taylor beating Kirby only for Craig McKay to cover well. Blackburne coped comfortably with a Nicky Cowley shot but when Stuart Blackburne rounded Brightly and centred, Steve King handled the ball and Blackburne converted. Darrell Ellams almost set up the equaliser, his centre being flicked over Brightly by Blackburne, but the keeper managed to tip just over. A series of Enfield corners came to nothing and while Michael Begg came close with a low shot, Concord were now on the back foot. Shots from Bardle and Wallace failed to test Brightly, and Nick Skelton was quickly across to block a shot from Blackburne. Brightly then appeared to trip Blackburne as he went round the Concord keeper, but no penalty was given. Lyle Taylor then had two good chances, but was unable to beat Rob Blackburne who spread himself well to block the second attempt. Town struggled to maintain their momentum and Concord looked more comfortable as things wore on. A series of substitutions from both sides broke up the game, and it was Concord who finished the stronger. Heale set up for Dave Collins to shoot into the side netting and with time running down, Taylor powered a header onto the bar, and Danny Heale forced the ball home. Bardle picked up two bookings for dissent in the dying minutes, but it was already game over for Town. Taylor almost got on the score sheet himself in injury time, but was denied by a fine save from Blackburne.

Brave performance by Town in the 2nd half... It just wasn't to be this year.. The squad can be rightly proud of what they achieved in getting to the play-off final..

match report and some highlights of the game (including the 'penalty' shout, it would of been perfect shot but someone's head got in the way, I had had a few beers before the game) now uploaded on

Don't worry. I got a perfect view of that one from my angle ! (Back of the main stand).

I'll try and post that on You Tube in the next couple of days. Full match DVD's will be available in a few weeks time.

You got some better angles than I did of one or two other incidents though, Mr. Cold End ! :applaus:

Good to see some old friends from my Southbury Road filming days at the game on Saturday.
