Huggs quits Gate citing work commitments

oh for goodness sake! dropping like flies - i agree Alan - bring Lloyd back!

Get over it, the players who have gone are not of the quality required, niether is Hockton, sadly. I,m sure IOC has better in mind. By the way at the start of the season I said Stubbs was not the mid-Fielder we need, have I been proved right ? Also I hope he stays, as a left sided defender he is improving.

Agreed re: the strikers. If we want to be challenging next season (as appears to be IOC's aim), neither of those were really good enough. Am confident that IOC knows what he's doing, and will bring in some quality over the summer. Better to let them go now than a week before the new season. Please keep the re-signing of ex-players to a minimum, though. Other than the two we have (Jay and Pinns), the rest are long past their best.

Stubbs played in midfield for a few of the games on our unbeaten run Derek, just for the record :)

He also plyed midfield for the best part of two seasons, where did we finish!

D'you really think he won 'fans player of the season' for the half dozen games he played at left-back?

Must be a lonely world when you know more than everybody else!

As far as the 2 strikers, both a bit lightweight in my mind. Huggins, I realise scored a few early goals but not the answer for us am sureof that. As far as DS, played well at left wingback, and gave us options but agree with derek centre midfiels not his position. Having said that a young lad lots to learn and personally would keep him. If he wants to stay.

Coming back to the thread topic of Mr Huggins;IOC's comments troubles me slightly:

It wouldn’t have been my choice to lose Leroy,” said the Gate boss, “but he has found it (the travelling) difficult due to work commitments.

Hopefully that is the manager being polite -and not just defending his own signing.

To be fair, Huggins may have brought alot to the dressing room which we never see-and i am equally eternally grateful for his early goal flourish-but i think it was for all to see why he has not really progressed beyiond ryman south/north level;and again-i hope it is IOC being polite-because if IOC does see Huggins as benchmark quality -i have concerns-and how he got in the team ahead of blackman will confound me for years to come.

There again-i know nothing

Leroy's early form was outstanding. Presumably Iain knew this to be his 'true form' and he kept him in the team hoping he'd get back to that standard.

I heard, from a reputable source, that he had been playing ill with a virus or something that was sapping his energy - which would explain the dip in form.

I'd agree that he played too many games 'off his game' where you could see that he should have been dropped and used when needed as a 'super sub'. For some reason Iain didn't put him onto the bench and revert to Lloyd as starting forward

I think a problem Iain inherited was that when he arrived Lloyd had just entered a spell where he was out of form and just 'going through the motions' in games. His attitude when subbed at Hornchurch was wrong for a senior player, who at one point in the season was Captain. If this was relayed to Iain by JK it might explain why he was restricted to the bench for the majority of the rest of the season.

You're right Peter about the virus that Leroy had. If you recall, when he did come back, he didn't last the full 90 so that was a factor. But Iain did rate Leroy and with better players around him at this level (rather than Ryman North) always looked capable.

In his remarks, Iain was just saying that he wasn't loking to release Leroy AND that he had previously stated that he was still looking to bring in another forward.
