Technical question

Why when I'm reading a message does it go back to a screen from 9th July when I use the 'back' button on the browser? To go to the latest screen I have to click on the STFC General Forum link instead. Any clues?

Ian,

I had the same problem and logged up a question on the site queries - here is Ian W's reply:

"Thanks.

Usually the problem is created by using the back button in IE.

In order for the cookies to work, and for the site to keep track of read posts etc., you should always use the internal navigation.

I know it is often quicker to hit back, but it can cause issues on many sites.

Having said that often the back button use, will not cause an issue, but depending upon the circumstances it may, especially as your PC will keep local caches copies of the site. Try using File/Work Offline and you will be able to view quite a lot by just using the version on your PC.

So my guess here in your situation, IE displayed a cached version of the page, when you hit back, and when you refreshed it pulled it from the site.

Hopefully that helps. "

I have not had a problem since, but it seems to have put itself right! I am still using Back!
