Their cracking shot against the bar really got us going and we never looked back in the first half.

Three cracking goals to set us off and running.

Good overall team performance but had some shaky moments towards the end.

2 questions - how did their full back not get sent off for saving the ball on the line with his hand before it was put in?

How on earth did the W and F number 8 stay on the pitch for 90 minutes?

2 answers: I thought the ball was over the line before he blocked it (and as the ball went in he hadn't denied a goalscoring opportunity, obvious or otherwise)

I've no idea either.

I thought the ball was a good foot over the line before their defender stopped it with his hand.

Blitzed them first half hour and left them shell-shocked with the three goal lead. First was great technique from Marks with a shot across his body from the edge of the box. Second was a tap in from Stuart after he reacted first to a saved free-kick and the he made it 3-0 with a header from a corner which, as mentioned previously, was palmed out by the Wingate full-back.

Gave away an unnecessary penalty shortly after (the only aberration by the immense Kirby) but went in at 3-1.

I thought we came out just looking to keep a lead, which on reflection worked, but led to a 45 minutes of massive tension. They got their second with a header from their bullish centre forward (how good was he by the way?...) and put our back four under a lot of pressure before they ran out of steam a bit towards the end.

I know it's easy to say it after winning but I thought Wingate were as good as anyone we've played for some time. Great footballing ethic and despite the unnecessary moaning from the 5 and 8 I thought they were an excellent unit and if they keep the same side together will take some stopping next season.

I know we've won nothing yet but the celebrations at the end of the game make the 0-1 defeats at Tilbury et al very much worth it. Looking forward to thecoldend's goal videos. I was standing next to him, he got all three!

Bring on Concord.

P.S. How great was the old school Steve Powell 'Give us an E...' towards the end? The nostalgia...

All wins are good wins, but this had everything from class play, blood and guts, errors and a slice of luck when called upon. Thats football. Now I'm really looking forward to the Concord game a real cup final against a team we have healthy rivalry with, should be a cracker, but I'd settle for a miserable 1-0 win. Good luck to all of our club, and lets get the job done.

Agree with everything you've written and as for Steve Powell, well you can't beat experience. I thought Wingate had some excellent players, but lacked some mental strength and leadership from the touchline, or maybe our boys deserved the credit for that. Yes if Wingate stick together with this crop of lads they'll be there or thereabouts next season.

Fantastic video Cold End, even though I was their it still gives me goose pimples watching it, maybe I should get it checked out.

Changing the subject somewhat. The official attendence was given as 412. I (sadly) counted 160 seated people and approx 200 along the side of the bench, which leaves 62 behind the goals and opposite the bench. I estimated the crowd was nearer 700+ with three quatres ETFC followers. Nonetheless it showed that the Enfield public will get up and watch a game of football involving their senior local non-league club, all they need is a decent level of football and rightly so.

Saturday can be that defining moment and i'm expecting 300ish Town fans to make the journey.
