A Plan not continual panic

Due to family connections I have withheld giving an opinion but without talking to others here goes!

CIFC has to make up their minds as to how they plan to play the game

Long balls played down the channels and they must have at least one (very) quick striker and one larger lump able to hold the ball up for mid-field raiders

Playing this way you need a mid-field that are not playmakers but second ball winning and box attacking players who contribute their share of goals

This season and seasons when successful CIFC have been on the floor, small triangles football playing teams with at least one mid-field schemer and strikers who had both the skills to strike for goal and inter-change positions giving defenders all the trouble they need to create gaps

In our final game this season we attempted both styles of play when we have put together a team incapable of sustaining either type of game

On Saturday we took time to get used to the hard ground (dodgy bounce) conditions then commenced controlling the game with the ball to feet, going a goal down we panicked and decided to play three forwards who all stood (still) with their backs to goal being tightly marked whilst defenders missed out mid-field and lofted the ball forward at every opportunity

It is impossible to have a group of players skilled in both ball to feet and lofted charges forward and attempting to out scuff a side who have worked on scuffing for meager results all season

When successful against sides at the top of the league we (earlier in the season) played the ball to feet with interchanging forwards and at least one mid-fielder as the schemer

To have any sustained success we must decide we are ball down the channels or ball to feet and select a group of players to match the choice

Without being critical of individuals we can only discuss the technical but please we need to have a planned playing method and see it through in the players we recruit in the training we offer and in the directions from on-field and off-field leaders
