The problem is not that the price was £9

Its that the price was changed as it was advertised as £7 elsewhere i believe.

Also the raffle guy who told me that he was going to soon put a stop to our half time collection when i said no to a raffle ticket. Well excuse me for our guys walking 102 miles for it.

Anyway i will NOT be returning to Coles lane next season as I found the bar staff, gate staff and raffle staff rude.

The players and management on the playing side were the opposite i must say and wished us luck etc.

Sorry to hear that Mark,

Re. the raffle, that is news to me. The collection was agreed unanimously without hesitation at commitee level, I knew it would be when I put it forward.

The gate staff, what was the issue there? We've never had an issue in that area, ever.

The bar staff are the sole responsibility of Sutton Coldfield Town FC, we make nothing from nor have anything to do with the bar. That said, I have always found them welcoming and courteous at all times over my 18 months at Romulus.

i too thought the players, management and you romulus (your the tannoy guy right?) were decent guys and prob enough to make me consider making the trip at least again BUT a few behind the goal were a joke 2nd half and I too heard the raffle man getting ratty as well as the groundsman (i think) after the match demanding Slough cleared the pitch despite already telling them to get off the pitch

oh well its over and done with now. Best of luck next season

Hi Romulus, it was not the guy on the gate but the guy who was groundsman. The bar staff fair enough not your fault and the raffle guy was rude.

The rest of the club were very welcoming and its just a shame that others ruined it for you.

Well when you say they, you would have to include me in that, I am part of the commitee and the decision making process on these things (while not being entirely responsible). As a small club with no other income than gate receipts we had to make a decision on some games this season.

We don't feel we have ripped people off. We didn't set a price just for this game, it was the pricing structure for better supported games, we lower this price if/when we feel appropriate. This price is not on it's own as the highest we have charged, nor is it any higher than you would pay any week at some Zamaretto Midlands clubs.

Sorry, Andy, but £7 for kids is the highest I've EVER paid at any non league ground even when we were two leagues higher. I wouldn't even pay £7 to get my daughter into a Championship game. To put it into context, at Chesham in the playoff final they didn't charge me for the 3 & 7 year olds and only charged me for £2 each for my 13 & 16 year olds.

Count yourself included then Romulus, charging 4 year olds £7 to get into a ground is dreadful, in fact as I said before its a disgrace, hope you all need Ovaltine to help you sleep at night.!!

Perhaps you should take a leaf out of Kilmarnocks books, Under 16 £5 and under 12 a £1, yes a pound!! and no I am not Scottish, just dont like being ripped off!!

The guy on the gate gave it away when he initially asked for £12 for me and the Willz and then suddenly changed the price to £14 after he realised he should have been in rip-off mode.

However how he "only" charged Willz £5, but Alfie, and Scarlet were charged £7 just goes to show what a con romulus were running.

Will not be going back there again.

Yep that was him!!

If this is the case then I apologise as the only people who were rude to me was him and the raffle guy.

He is a Sutton volunteer who helps us too, his concern was probably having to tidy up... overzealous I totally agree, it has been noted.

Andy - in dealing with you about the walk you were very accommodating and again I thank you for that. However, you say that "overpriced is subject to opinion". However, I reiterate my previous comments - I could take my children to watch Watford in the Championship and pay significantly less than Romulus chose to charge me that day. That's not about opinion - that's scandalous. I was charged £9 x 1 and £7 x 3 for me and a 13, 7 and 4 year old. Do the Romulus committee honestly think that is justified?

Against what other teams did you charge £7 for a four year old to enter last season?

Thats not right. There should be some sort of league ruling for that if you ask me. Susprised there isnt one.

Sheffield United kids can get season tickets for £10. Only 3 quid more than it costs to go to see Romulus vs Slough?!? Windsor have kids go free and its really helped the crowds grow and means the next generation can start to come along!

That is outrageous and seems like a planned attempt to make money because they knew slough were going to turn up in numbers, noone would begrudge a few extra quid but that is OTT, having said that not buying a raffle ticket when you go to away games can wind people up especially if the host club have said you can make a collection on the day, it works both ways surely.

Not really. I think the view of most was that their extra £2 went on getting into the ground, whereas buying a bloody raffle ticket, food or drink is a matter of choice!

It's your opinion that it is scandalous mate and I'm sorry you feel that way. My fault, should have let the thread die out, my point was the rest of the commitee are good people, I've made that point now.

If we are in the same division next year I will make a point of posting the admission prices on here for those that wish to know.

Not really, people can choose to or not donate to a charity as they can to or not buy a raffle ticket.

Romulus: if your club is going to rip people off please be more subtle about it next time:

I was charged £9 to get in- no problem there, however when i went to the bar there was

a poster saying Romulus v Slough, Adults: £7. I suggest next season you spend a few

minutes taking down your flyers or altering them with a felt tip pen.

I accept that it’s my opinion, Andy, but I believe it’s based on a pretty sound footing given the examples I’ve quoted.

Had I known it was £7 would I have still brought my kids? Yes, because it was the final game of the season and they wanted to see their mum who had walked 110 miles for charity. Has it left a bitter taste? Absolutely to the point I wouldn’t go back to Coles Lane for a Romulus game out of principle, even if they reduced the prices to something sensible.
