Romulus 1-4 Slough | SYCOB 0-2 Sutton - Were in the play-offs!!

Thought it an complete rip off the prices charged - £9 for an adult and £5 for a junior, especially as the price on the flyers in the bar was different.

However Romulus you may well have my money, but we have the points and the playoff position so you can kiss my :bootyshake:

Five pounds....lucky you. I was charged £9 for me and £7 (yes, seven pounds ) for each of the three kids. I couldn't believe it when I gave him £30 and he said, yes that's right. I didn't think about it at the time as I was more interested in getting in and getting everything sorted for Kay & Martin's arrival. Yesterday wasn't the day for an argument about ticket pricing but I won't be returning to Romulus. Seven quid for children is disgusting.

Andy (the guy posting on here as Romulus) was very accommodating with announcements about the walkers etc and I thank him for that. Several other officials though were the least hospitable I've come across in non league football for many years. You would think they'd welcome away support like yesterday but I got the impression they'd be happier playing in front of 20 people.

Just wanted to add my congratulations to the chairman, manager and players, an awesome day out, one of the best since i started watching back in the early 70s.

One downer for me though was i wished i had gone by train/coach rather than bike, as i would have loved to have had a few more beers in the bar after. Again,

superb away support made it feel a real carnival atmosphere. As for the £9 admission debate, surely we dont begrudge the Roms a few quid? Although they

need to make sure the flyers state the same price as the gatemen. Roll on Tuesday.

If Andy was the guy who let us through, then agree really nice man, unlike the moany old devil who wanted Ian to make sure no balloons went on the pitch, not sure how Ian was going to manage that one though, clever as he is!

If Romulus charge £9 for every game so be it, but I do believe they upped the price when they realised there could be quite a few of us coming, which is completely out of order.

Anyway away from that now, absolutely brilliant day the best we have had for a long time. I think we should keep the party going on Tuesday no matter what happens. So bring on the poppers and streamers everyone.

Also well done to Kay and Martin absolutely brilliiant, maybe Hitchin will let you do a collection at half time, it really is for a good cause.

Well done Radder's, you still looked a bit under the weather on Sat so look after yourself and your mum is right keep quiet now until Tuesday!

Oh and Warren we had petit fours on the coach !!

Slough Town should thank the Beaconsfield players and supporters as everybody knew what was going on at Romulus. In the last 10 minutes Beaconsfield and Slough supporters were urging the Beaconsfield players to hit the corners, waste time and keep the ball by the corner flag. They responded with great desire and defended with their lives right up until the final whistle when they could have folded and gone off on their holidays and this was to secure a 2 - 0 defeat. There were players out there playing for Slough's cause thats for sure.

Well done Slough and good luck at Hitchen.

So WR, the moral of the story is if you want to be wined and dined and have petit fours for pudding served by trolley dollies  and have a few beers get the coach.

While on the subject must say a big thank-you to Sue, Aiden and the crew for the effort they put in providing us with food and drink for the trip(s) :applaus:

Wow!! Think that just about sums it up!!!!

As i've seen so many Slough Town last day misfortunes (Chesham away, Fleet away) after Tuesdays defeat I decided to go to watch the SYCOB v's Sutton game, as I kinda expect the worst when I hope for the best. So many highs and lows all afternoon - mental! I really thought we had blown it after the Aylesbury match with the games left.

At about 4.45 we looked finished Sutton were all over SYCOB and Romulus had just pulled a goal back. Then I get the phonecall off Gary to say were back in front then minutes later another call to say we had won 4-1.

Cue EIGHT minutes of such tense injury-time at SYCOB for injuries and me Matt Cousins and Brian Harper (Dean's Dad) shouting at the ref to blow-up it seemed as though time was standing still!!! Sutton pushing so many men forward. Last eight minutes I did a running commentary to Gary on the phone. Not sure it made much sense, mostly me shouting at the ref to blow the whistle!

Actually about 20 Slough fans and Ricky Perks going hope happy at the end. I feel sorry for Sutton missing out by one goal, but there support was absolutely terrible. Four 'Officials' in the stand and that was it. Easily more Slough fans than Sutton fans.

As for the SYCOB match, well it was tense and Sutton had most of the play. Luckily for us the best player on the day was THAT PITCH Sutton could not get the ball down and play. SYCOB did hit the bar, but looked there for the taking. There two centre backs though Taylor-Ives and Ryan Bernard were excellent and easily their best players.

Disappointed to miss out on the celebrations at the end of the match, but just so happy we made it.

Oh and thanked Wilko at the end smilewinkgrin.gif

Nomatter what happens Tuesday awesome day i'll always remember!

I think Slough Town should thank the Beaconsfield players and supporters as everybody at Holloways Park knew what was going on at Romulus. In the last 10 minutes Beaconsfield and Slough supporters were urging the Beaconsfield players to hit the corners, waste time and keep the ball by the corner flag. They responded fantastically with great desire and defended with their lives right up until the final whistle, when they could have folded and gone off on their holidays, as this was to secure a 2 - 0 defeat and get Slough into the play off's, nothing other than pride for themselves. There were a lot of players out there playing for Slough's cause thats for sure. So as for Beaconsfield having a poor season and Slough having a good one. A lot of admiration should go to Beaconsfield's very young team for the way they kept working right up until the last seconds of what has been a very hard season for them. Apart from a couple of older players they have an extremely young team which I'm sure will be betterfor the experience in the long run and hopefully come good with some additions over the next 18 months.

Well done Slough and good luck at Hitchen, we hope you are playing in the Premier Division next season.

no disrespect to Beaconsfield but the 2 times we have played them they have almost "fallen apart" defensively once they go a goal or 2 behind so it was very much so a superb effort by them to keep a desperate Sutton Coldfield side at bay late on. something i am certainly extremely grateful though maybe they hope we go up to bring a bit more money in for themselves  fine by me tbh. lets hope Beaconsfield have a better season next season. some promising players that will learn from this season i am sure

as for the playoff game against Hitchin I just hope we do ourselves justice and give them one hell of a game. one our day we are more than capable of progressing just gotta make sure it is 1 of those days

The play-offs really are a lottery. It's a one off and the team that turns up on the night and has that little bit of luck go there way wins the game.

Win or lose I'll be happy either way because I would say we've exceeded most supporters expectations and had a great season.

Indeed, we have achieved so much over this season, so win or lose we should all be happy with where we have got to. Part of me still cannot believe that we got to go to the playoffs, especially after what the club has been through in the last few years. Now we just need to see what happens, if we can play against Hitchin like we did last week but create more chances and take some, we have every chance.

Cannot wait for the game, hopefully we will go out there fighting, and win or lose we need to sing from start to finish, and show Hitchin that we are the best support in the league.

Come on you Rebels!!

Lets hope that on the night football is the winner and the best team wins which ever that turns out to be, more importantly lets hope the league provide a ref & 2 assistants good enough to deliver fairly to both sides something I'm sure both teams would agree has been lacking this season, Congratulations to both teams on what they have achieved

Looking forward to tonight, just counting down the teaching time until I can leave for Hitchin. Definately worth recreating our party atmosphere tonight, so maybe a trip to the party shop is in order before heading off to the station!

  • 2 weeks later...

Not to drag too much over old ground here, but wanted to say something and hadn't had the time.

I am originally a Redditch United fan- have been for 15 years, I helped the club by being press officer there, the role evolved from doing the tannoy and selling raffle tickets.

I got more and more involved, too involved really and without going into too much detail the club was a sham from top to bottom at the time in many many ways, it didn't treat people well, fans or volunteers.

The straw that broke the camel's back was a proposed merger with Bromsgrove Rovers, as bad as that had of been it wasn't even a merger, more a MK Dons/Wimbledon situation and it was instigated by us! Take Conference North status over to Bromsgrove and make more money out of it, little did they realise the reaction they would get from both sides of the fence! This added to everything else was gut wrenching for me as a fan, as someone who gave up too many hours to mention alongside life's other commitments (I'm sure there are plenty of club/trust officials there who know how it feels to not have enough hours in the day!) and I walked away.

Having been an avid non league fan since my teens I became very disilliusioned, I did some reporting for the local Sunday, every other week at Romulus.

I finally get to the point here by saying they were brilliant to me, the club throughout has the right attitude and as things evolved I have become Press Oficer there and am enjoying every minute, if I'm honest more than I ever did in the same role at Redditch. I felt obliged to put the work in at Redditch as it was my club, at Romulus I do it because I want to, everyone is a part of it and it's good to work with people who I have the utmost respect for, we all pull in the same direction and both on and off the pitch we have grown and improved year on year.

You're all entitled to your opinions but I can honestly tell you that the commitee members there are great, there's not a bad attitude amongst them and the hospitality is second to none.

Hopefully you'll all return to Coles Lane (to watch the Roms of course!) next year and experience that for yourselves.

Well when you say they, you would have to include me in that, I am part of the commitee and the decision making process on these things (while not being entirely responsible). As a small club with no other income than gate receipts we had to make a decision on some games this season.

We don't feel we have ripped people off. We didn't set a price just for this game, it was the pricing structure for better supported games, we lower this price if/when we feel appropriate. This price is not on it's own as the highest we have charged, nor is it any higher than you would pay any week at some Zamaretto Midlands clubs.
