I remember watching us play Ford a few years back. Towards the end of the match a Ford 'shot' on goal ended up resting against the fence. Due to there being no ball boys back then and us winning 1-0 our 'keeper strolled to retrieve it to the disgust of the opposition. "Hurry up" were the repeatable shouts. The naughty little Urchin just told them they'd do exactly the same in his position. Thinking about it now, I can't understand why one of their players didn't go to get it.

Still, we won and Ford still achieved promotion.

Bit more than 5 years ago but how's this for a side ?

1. Gary Harrold

2. Nicky Bissett

3. Allan Jacobs

4. Steve Porter

5. Steve Hopkins

6. Lenny Tomkins

7. John Berry

8. Gary Higgins

9. Frank Peterson

10. Brian Weekes

11. John Roche

12. Jessie Roast

14. Graham Hickey

15. Del Pedder

16. Alan Brett

17. Chris Blakeborough

Anyone remember any of those ?

Probably not as good as the current side though.

Alan Keeper was a lanky ginger haired defender who was with us about 5 (?) seasons ago. He was with us for 1-2 seasons, was a superb solid and reliable defender who eventually left to play for Braintree Town.

Ian Bower was a tall midfielder/defender from Barnsley who with us about three seasons ago. A great player but sadly suffered a serious knee injury and never really made it back into the first team reckoning.

Alan Brett and Stevie Porter, absolute legends for Canvey and both scored in that epic 2-2 draw against Brighton in 1995, my first ever Canvey game.
