Bateman to consider future if Rebels miss out on play-offs

Should he stay or go?

I think he should stay personally, the club needs stability on the footballing side. Good to see that perhaps Bateman recognises some of the managerial faults that fans have questioned at times in the season.

Ok I have just got my express and it is reported that Steve Bateman will consider himself a failure and will consider his future at our club if we fail to make the playoffs.

I would therefore like to start this thread hoping he reads this forum.

I personally would consider this to be a DISASTER

No matter what happens tomorrow Steve has turned this club on its head and has given us something to shout about once again. Yes we should not be where we are given where we were 2 months ago but I consider Steve to be a very good manager and I think we are safe with the club in his hands.

I would therefore ask Steve to stay no matter what happens tomorrow. After all Rome was not built in a day and if Steve goes we have to start again.

I am unsure of the exact budget Romulus but from what I know we are not as big as everyone reports.

Steve Easterbrook is a businessman and so has good sense financially therefore we have stuck to a strict budget (correct me if im wrong)

Commercially we have been tremendous since the arrival of Easterbrook and so we are within our means.

Ditto.

I really hope SB stays and finishes the job he has started. He said at the begining of the season that he was 'no quitter', I hope he sticks to his word, stays and leads us to promotion next season.

But in terms of a comparison to who you are competing with, you are one of the bigger clubs so would you say you have one of the bigger budgets?

I agree Romulus we probably do have a bigger budget than certain teams in this league but if you look at the other teams at the top with us:

Hitchin, big fanbase and big budget

Bury, Rich owner so big budget

Burnham, Rich owner so big budget

Chesham, Big fanbase so big budget

Sutton, A team built up over years

So I would say that given we are paying rent and given that sutton are getting rent I wouldnt be suprised if we had the lowest budget out of the top 6.

I dont know where this big budget speculation comes from but as Tom said its not for on here and to be honest it's nothing to do with us.

As for Steve, good god , I hope he doesnt go. This is the best season we have had for a long time and to be honest I think most of us would of been happy to finish in the top half never mind think about the play off's.

Steve must stay and finish the job he said he'd set out to do-if not this year which seems a tall order now-unless Beaconsfield

can do us a big favour.

No its as RWG said on Steve's appointment, " he'll do well and is light years beyond Sweetman & Roberts ". Which of course has been proven.

the fear is IF he was to go a fair few of the current squad would also follow suit. I can understand that Bateman will be annoyed if we don't make the playoffs and we probably shouldn't have ended up in this situation but the improvement is huge and nobody in their wildest dreams thought we would cruise into the playoffs. Without management and playing squad consistency year after year we have next to no chance of progressing so lets hope whatever happens Bateman takes us forward beyond this season.

Well the budget is surely relevant to whether a manager is succesful or not?

Just playing devil's advocate really.

From a purely outsiders view, from where you were earlier this season and the fact that you had signed a few players from a higher level (4 from Hemel who finished in the play-off's in the Prem last year, without them are bottom 4 this year) Slough seemed to have the ambition to go up, chasing top spot in December to have a top 5 place in question on the last day there may have been questions asked at other clubs, though in fairness I don't know the circumstances or how well he's done to evolve the side from where it was. But surely finance plays a part?

I really hope that Steve stays with us next season regardless of what happens tomorrow. He has worked miracles under Steve Easterbrook at this club over the last season and a bit, and should be hailed as a hero regardless of whether we make the playoffs or not. There is no reason why he should quit the club when we have the potential to aim for promotion next season (if it doesn't happen this time of course!) by being firmly in the playoffs or even at the top spot.

I agree with Mark, definately a need for several chants of 'Stevie Bateman's Rebel Army' tomorrow, to show him how much we appreciate his work and what he has done for the club.

Very much looking forward to getting behind the team and the management team tomorrow!

Considering the state the playing side was in when SB took over to where it is now, goes to show the work that SB has put in.

This year was always going to be a work in progress year and anything near the top would be a bonus, good teams need time to mature and gel and the odd wrinkle needs to be ironed out.

The reality is that SB needs to look at this as just the first year of the plan, how many years did it take for Sir Alex Furguson to refine his team?

SB is the first real manager that the club has had for a number of years and this is appriciated by the fans.

P.S.

Romulus - can you please tell us the budget at your club and the indivdual players wages please?

We should show him how much we want him to stay with the last ten minutes of our game tomorrow singing "stevie batemans rebel army" ??

No matter what the score is

completely agree

we need to show SB that the fans absolutely love him and agree he is the best man for the job (even if at times we haven't shown that we feel this way)

start and end with "stevie batemans rebel army"

we are a bit dissapointed that at this stage of the season we are not secure in play offs considering where we were not too long ago. But every one knows we have made an incredible improvement to the last few seasons and this has mainly been down to SB managing the team.
