Re: Hastings, it's always difficult to tell how these situations will pan out. Needing a win might work against them in terms of pressure or throwing men forward. As for Thursday, I'll take a Maidstone win.

I take it you're playing for 4th bottom spot already then CE?

A win or a draw for Maidstone prevents us from being OUTSIDE the bottom 4 full stop. A loss for them would still mean we will have everything to play for on Saturday.A Maidstone Win or Draw would mean we are playing for 4th bottom spot ONLY on Saturday.

If Bognor were to WIN at Maidstone that would still give us TWO chances on Saturday (albeit both being slim admittedly) of getting out of the bottom four as well as STILL having the chance for that 4th bottom place.

Maidstone go to Kingstonian on Saturday & if they were on form Kingstonian are quite capable,on their day of winning that game & at the same time rattling up a few goals too which would help our cause. Will they be resting players for the play-offs though? I would hope not, though I could understand it if they did.

Waltham Abbey couldn't catch us if we manage all 3 points on Saturday.

Ashford on the other hand probably have the better chance of escaping (on paper) v Harrow at home. Harrow are no mugs though & I'm sure will still be a major threat to Ashford's survival hopes.(Just one point might be enough for them to survive).

Bognor are at home to Dartford on Saturday & depending on the efforts of Dartford now they are Champs Bognor are going to have to draw on everything to get something from that game.Bognor will still need a point (taking into consideration the goal differences) - if after having won at Maidstone.

For me I havent given up on a 5th bottom spot just yet & being out of the bottom 4 altogether so I'm hoping for a Maidstone loss at home on Thursday to take us into the last day with hopes of escaping altogether but also with a 4th bottom spot to play for too.

Irrespective of what other teams do on Thursday and/or on Saturday WE HAVE TO TAKE ALL 3 POINTS THOUGH ON SATURDAY (can't be stressed enough) to give us a chance of survival. Hastings will be going all out for it too & ARE our bogie team & ARE a formidable side so we will still have our work cut out ourselves to achieve the "great escape" (& my goodness wouldn't it be just that).

Should be an interesting Saturday all round.

Just seen this mentioned elsewhere on the Ashford forum about Bognor, so maybe Thursday's game could just be beyond them. Lets hope not.

"It won't be easy.Bognor's my other team, and I know that they're almost down to the bare bones squad-wise, as Brighton have taken all their loanees back. To compound matters, one of Bognor's strikers had an accident at work yesterday and missed the game".

Oh yes I'd forgotten about that Jab. Was a special tribute night I believe. Hope things went well for everyone concerned on the night.

i had to look twice yesterday on the vidi printer Cookie as thought it was an error, but now understand why, would guess there were a lot 'non-football' people there last night giving their support for the service personal which is fantastic and you never know they may have enjoyed the football also and return next season as supporters!

Not likely, going by this report from TK forum.

Ryman Div One South

Folkestone Invicta 0 Croydon Athletic 0

£2.50 for a special programme, a bit pricey but a decent product.

Free entry as part of help for hero's tribute (see http://www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk/aldridgetribute.htm) which was a fantastic gesture by the club and this drew in a bumper crowd of 2,134 for this title decider, Folkestone Invicta had to win to keep the race going until the final game where as Croydon Athletic needed just a point to clinch it.

There were varuious moving ceremonies before kick off and the game didn't get underway until 8pm.

That's the good bits, now the bad. The game itself! Talk about after the Lord Mayor Show, absolute garbage with the ball being hoofed from one end of the pitch to the other for most of the game, this seems to be par for the course in this league but I would have hoped for a bit better from the top two. In fairness to Croydon Athletic they did put a few decent moves together and were generally the better side and with a bit more ambition up front they would surely have won the game although they were quite understandably happy to settle for a draw. I overheard a few people in the crowd who were obviously not regulars comment on the abysmal standard of football, I doubt if they'll be returning in a hurry, and why on earth a player of the quality of ex Gravesend & Northfleet legend Jimmy Jackson plys his trade here I don't know, he spent much of the game watching the ball fly over his head.

If this is the best Folkestone Invicta can offer then I really hope they don't get promoted through the plays offs, they are a friendly enough club but if I had to watch this sort of football every week I'd take up tiddlywinks instead.

This was my second 0-0 in a couple of weeks having previously gone a year (exactly to the day!) without oneunsure.gif

Big celebrations on the final whistle by Croydon Athletic and their small but noisy band of followers and many congratulations to them, I've always found them to be a nice friendly club although I suspect a few Ryman Premier clubs might struggle to find their well hidden ground next seasonwink.gif

a 'one off'' maybe regarding the football? Can't see them playing every week like this and being in 2nd spot which really is 1st if not for the points deduction.
