Match Report for Monday night.

Enfield Town (0) 1 aet 2 Hall 90 (p) Marks 108

Bedfont (1) 1 aet 1 Morgan 4

Attendance 80

A bruising encounter started well for Bedfont when Aaron Morgan gave them a fourth minute lead. With many disruptions to the game, Town never got going and the Orchardmen looked odds on to go through after a more composed second half display. An injury time penalty converted by Rudi Hall and an extra time winner from Paul Marks denied them that, and Town go through after a game that at times descended into bedlam.

Bedfont took control as Town were still trying to get themselves going and when Mark Nicholls shot was parried by Rob Blackburne, Morgan drilled home from close range. A slide rule pass from Rudi Hall sent Ben Hammond down the left to centre to Stuart Blackburne but Mark Philpot turned the shot behind. Bedfont looked the more dangerous going forward, but Enfield came close when a flick from Liam Hope was bravely turned onto the Bedfont bar by Blackburne as Philpott closed him down. A giveaway from Dave Blower nearly gave Bedfont a second, as Julius Mngadi set up Chris Drake, but he missed his shot. The game became increasingly robust and with it more disjointed. Stefan O’Brian drilled over, and Morgan was clear through sliding the ball past Blackburne into the side netting. Sam Byfield tried to catch Philpott off his line, but missed the target and then Stuart Blackburne was baulked by Leigh Harrington on the edge of the box, the free kick going over. Enfield came close to levelling on the stroke of half time. A Rudi Hall corner fell to Blackburne with his back to goal, but he was unable to force it over the line and it was scrambled clear.

A more controlled second half performance from Bedfont saw them take hold of the game. Defending well at the back they broke with pace and could have added to their lead. Shots from Mngadi came close, Rob Blackburne pulling off some good saves. Ellams denied Drake after he had cut wide on the right, Bedfont coming close from the resulting corner. Enfield were over complicating things and it was not working. Blackburne punched clear off Morgan’s head, but Town escaped again after a shot across the face of the goal could not be turned in by the unmarked Drake. A good shot from Nicholls was saved by Blackburne, but in a last Hurrah, Liam Hope came close with a header, then Rudi Hall was tripped in the box and converted the penalty in injury time.

Frustrated by the late equaliser Bedfont set about restoring their lead as extra time kicked off. Dan Bennell had a shot charged down and Nicholls picked out Lee Clarke from a free kick, but his header was straight at Blackburne. Sub George Benn cannoned a shot off Ellams, and Blackburne had to be quick to punch off the head of Morgan yet again. As the game wore on Bedfont’s frustrations got the better of them. When Ellams played a free kick to the back post it was scrambled home by Paul Marks to put Town ahead. And as the game became even more disrupted, it was marred by more bookings. Town defended a series of corners as Bedfont looked to level, but as the clock wound down, tempers boiled over and Nicholls was shown the Red Card at the final whistle.
