And they're off!!

As it says…..the great walk has started!

Kay, Martin and Radders set off from Wexham Park at 9:30am this morning. Today is a relatively gentle start – they’ll be getting as far as the centre of Wycombe although to put that into context that’s as far as the Harrow walk from a few years ago!!

When I spoke to Kay a few minutes ago they were in good spirits and hadn’t yet started the inevitable discussion around the best ever Rebels 1-11! I think they are saving that for later!!!

Only 110 miles to go........

Hi all,

Just wanted to fill everyone in with the current state of affairs. Last night I started to feel unwell and went to bed early hoping to complete todays (shortish) walk, get home and to bed early again and hopefully feel fully recovered for the longer days ahead. Unfortunately, despite completing todays 13 miles, a mixture of the illness and the heat of the bus on the way home hit me quite hard, and I fainted on the journey home. I would like to thank Martin and Kay for their help and assistance in ensuring I was ok and getting me back to Slough safely.

Sadly, this means I shall definately be missing tomorrow's and probably Wednesday's walking sessions, to recover fully and avoid a potential repeat occurrence. I am hopeful of attending tomorrow night's match in some capacity (many of you 'behind the goalers' maybe pleased to hear I won't be at full vocal capacity) and then I would like to think I could resume walking by Thursday at the latest.

I wanted to fill everyone in on the situation as a lot of you guys have sponsored me and I didn't want to hide anything. I am gutted to be missing any of the trip, and I wish Kay and Martin all the best in my absence.

Hopefully see everyone tomorrow, or at worst, on Saturday.

Gutted for you, Radders. When I phoned Kay yesterday afternoon I asked if there any dramas. I wasn't quite expecting this! Fingers crossed you can join them later this week.

Good luck today to Kay and Martin who start at 9:30am from Wycombe to do the long walk from there to Bicester. Will post an update later.

Radders

Speaking as someone who had to make the tough choice to pull out of the last leg of the Worthing walk, I can tell you that you have absolutely done the right thing. Get yourself on the mend and then if you're feeling recovered join in again later on.

Latest news is they reached Chinnor a while ago. Doing ok but no thanks to some steep hills coming out of Wycombe. Expected to reach Bicester at about 4:30pm this afternoon which from memory will be 23 miles for the day.

Into context, that's the Harrow walk on Monday followed by the Berkhamstead walk today. :applaus:

Hi all,

Firstly many thanks for all the messages of support. Definately made me feel even a little bit better. Still not feeling great unfortunately and am currently not expecting to be able to rejoin Kay and Martin tomorrow as I haven't really been able to stand for any length of time since arriving home on Monday.

I am absolutely gutted to be missing the walk and the fact that I missed my first league game of the whole season last night as well.

Not really much else to add at the moment, although needless to say I shall be back out there asap and ready to cheer the boys on on Saturday.

Here's a link to where Kay and Martin are aiming for today.

Cheers, Horsham - I know where to pick them up from now!!!

They had reached Bicester by about midday but had continued their trend of stopping for lunch in pubs that don't serve food! I thought every pub in the country served food these days but they seemed to keep finding the few that don't! Both in good spirits. Or maybe I misheard and both had consumed good spirits?!!!

Three days in and going ok. We are now over half way there.

Road kill update for those interested:

Only a couple of birds, a rat andsomething so flat it was unrecogisable. However we did witness a suicide attempt by a pheasant or grouse, which failed by inches. I think this would have taken the record for freshness.

The fact that we got to this afternoon before we found any is probably more notable than what we have seen.

Radders, glad to hear you areon the mend. See you soon
