What a local rag in the area has said

TRIALIST Tony Boot did his chances of earning a contract at Colchester United the world of good by scoring seven minutes into his first appearance at Layer Road.

The 22-year-old, who headed the U's in front against Premiership outfit Charlton Athletic, told me that he hoped boss Phil Parkinson would clarify his situation after the game.

The former Chelsea and Southend United trainee revealed: "I've been here two weeks and it's a good sign that he (Parkinson) keeps calling me back."

"The gaffer told me that I seem like one of the squad and not a player on trial so that must be good. I haven't felt out of place," he added.

"My movement, pace are my strengths but I am primarily a goalscorer. I've never scored less than 25 goals a season at whatever level I've played at - and it doesn't matter what level you play at if you can finish you can finish. I hope I get a chance here.
