Barking will be a lot stronger next season if they keep their current squad.

Good couple of days for Stansted with you lot and Burnham both losing! Between Stansted and Witham now me thinks.....be good to see it go to the last day of the season.

Help please guys - If Stansted win the league, they cant go up (Correct), so would the team finishing 2nd go up?

Don't wish to be negative, but for me Stansted won the league weeks ago. Confirmed with BGU defeat last night, because of our goal difference minus 29 to them and no game on Saturday, we are as good as 5 points behind and could be 8 by Saturday night, we then would need 9 out of 9 points with our next game being away to Enfield. If you also think Stansted would then have to lose both games. All over.

Stansted ..........31 +55 65

Witham Town........31 +26 61..(max 70)

Enfield 1893.......32 +24 60..(max 66)

Bethnal Green Utd..31 +38 59..(max 68)

Burnham Ramblers...30 +32 57..(max 69)

Takeley............29 +14 48..(max 63)(can not win league, but can catch WTFC)

My understanding of promotion from step 5 to step.4, this was asked by Uncle Tom to me a few weeks ago...

save writing all out, just copied and pasted my reply, i know you are not Uncle Tom....lol

"Afternoon Uncle Tom, unfortunately it is not as simple as that at level five. Everyone seems to think if we come second to Stansted as they have not put a chit in for promotion that we would be promoted.

There are 14 step five leagues, Essex Senior, Ridgeons, South Midlands etc, etc, now there are only 12 places. 2 for Ryman South, 2 for Ryman North, 2 for Southern South West, 2 for Southern Eastern (AFC Sudbury, Bury Town division) and then two for Northern North and Northern South... not sure what the Northern league call their divisions now.

Ok, now lets just assume everyone who wants to go up wins their division 14 into 12 don't go, obviously some of the winners, Ie Stansted ESL, CRC for the Ridgeons dont want promotion. Also some clubs will go bust higher up the pyramid.

It will be a lottery to see if second will be good enough, as it will depend on if there are many Weymouth's going bust and if there are many Stansted, CRC's winning the step five league's. If we do finish second then it will be a nervous summer waiting to hear and a reverse of last season.

For two maybe three seasons Ilford always finished second bottom and got a reprieve our first year in the second from bottom berth and we get relegated but we did have one of the worst records from the Ryman, Southern and Northern to finish 2nd from bottom.

Hope that all makes sense. Nice to see you back on here again. "

Barking are one of the best sides I've seen in the second half of the season. They're excellent defensively and more and more I'm thinking that too many teams at this level focus on getting forwards in on big bucks.... but it's the defence where you can't afford to be weak.

I think Eton Manor have found that to their cost this season, as have Bowers & Pitsea and even in recent weeks Burnham.

Barking will be right up there next time if they don't lose too many players, then the usual suspects (Takeley, Barkingside and Enfield) will be strong and Bethnal Green too if they can keep their squad together. After that I think it'll be the usual mix of surprise packages and teams throwing a bit of money at it. The interesting one will be Stansted. Not sure what the situation is with their ground at the minute? Hopefully they will still be allowed to be in the ESL, but there are more than a couple of Ryman clubs casting envious eyes over both the management staff and the players.

Never Been - not at all. But you know how it is - small club like Stansted does amazingly well and everyone in the league above starts casting their eyes. For what my opinion is worth (probably very little) I think the majority of your side would make the step up pretty comfortably.

Having said that - I'd love to see Stansted keep their squad together and the management and prove to everyone next season that this is no fluke. They're up there on the basis of being a very, very, good side.

Talking about the sides that may challenge next year, could be Harlow Town to add to the list

There is a rumour doing the rounds (started by a Hornchurch supporter) that they will be going into administration yet again, so its possible that mighty Hornchurch could find themselves back in the ESL.

I was told last night (By a very reliable source) that AFC Hornchurch were indeed going to be an ESL club next season. I hope for the sake of my Urchin friends (Hiya Buzzard Boy) that this is not the case, but I would welcome the return of the Urchin hordes to The Len Salmon Stadium. The banter last time was great.... "Studs or blades lino, studs or blades"?

It would be devastating if a club like Mighty AFCH had to return to the ESL but I suppose I would just have to learn to live with it.

Thanks to Justin and FCFAN for the complimentary comments, hopefully we can take things forward even further next season but as stated as lot depends on keeping the squad together so fingers crossed the majority will stay. Think BGU were a little unlucky we were unable to play without pressure and wanted to recapture some pride after some recent defeats, Bethnal for their part were probably a little edgy knowing thet had to win to stay in contention. Take nothing away from Bethnal Green, great first season whatever happens and sporting attitude from their Management even in defeat, look forward to seeing them in the cup final in May.

An interesting season all round, i think Stansted will and deserve to win the league as they've won the most key games, scraped an important result at our place when not at their best and that's the sort of display that wins titles. Was also impressed with Enfield when deservedly beating us at home recently. Ironically perhaps best team encountered all season probably Witham last Tuesday who looked every inch a Ryman's team on the night , strong in every department and a real cutting edge up front when chances came along.
