Match updates (15/4)

Not a good result If you ask me, should be winning those games.

Goal difference may be crucial now. Say we win Saturday and they lose were six points ahead with six to play for.

However, next week we have 2 very hard games and they have Rothwell who lost 7-0 Tuesday and beaconsfield. I think Saturday we not only need to win, but to win well now in my opinion.

Some more in depth updates of the game here http://www.bromsgroveroversfc.com/

The concerning thing about tonight's result is that it highlights the lack of goals being scored at the moment. I can't see Sutton dropping points after the Burnham game which is concerning, they have the easier run in and are scoring.

As Chris has said, Slough HAVE to win Saturday and HAVE to score goals, if not tonight could be the result that when the seasons over and when the team look back cost them in the run in.

Like i said in a previous post I can see Jarvis letting Sutton Coldfield get a result on Sat by resting players.

I think they will win their last three games which means we NEED a result against Hitchin or it comes down to goal difference and thats assuming we win the other two which given our current form we wont!!!!

If we do make the playoffs I think my shout of NBH as a target man is looking good. With 15 mins to go and needing a goal id prefer NBH up there for a set piece compared to anyone else we have atm. He may not be a striker but we can use him to get us a crucial goal. Thing is, IF we get to the playoffs we have Hitchin who will have played us a week previous and will know to double up on Sincs and know how we play and revert their game accordingly.

Do we have a plan B?

Would tend to agree with Chris. On the face of it, tonight's result is a poor one. The league table does not lie, we really need to be winning games like this one.

Anything less than a win on Saturday would be a very poor result indeed. Personally I think we need two more wins. It could even be more.

Were struggling to score goals at the moment and need to look elsewhere as it's unfair to always look to Elliot to score. I'd get Dean Harper back in the side (always a threat from set-pieces and into double figures last season in a poor side). For me Seeby (who has been excellent at centre back since he's gone there) and Yeboah don't look nearly as threatening going up for corners.

This may also sound strange, but i'd also get Tommy Hayes back involved on the bench to use late in games, as when we've attacked late on we've had a load or corners in recent matches and done nothing with them and our delivery at times has been shocking. May sound wierd as Tommy does not score goals and that's what we need, but he can create them with his excellent delivery. One month earlier in the season when Tommy was on corners and NBH & Harper were in the side we looked like scoring from most of his corner kicks, now we look like were not threatening at all with either the options in the box, or the delivery.

I also don't see the point in some of the sub choices we've had in recent weeks ie Kean, Bateman & Duncan as they are all good players but all too simiar, so when we need to change it we don't have enough different options. Hayes would offer something different.

Just got home and wish i hadnt gone!

The highlight of the day was probably the m40!

For those intelligent enough to stay at home:-

Bromsgrove pitch is like the moons surface so Sippets and Sonner (and then buchanan) were fed balls balooned into the box. We started well for the first 5 and they controlled the game until Mo scored from 25 yards (i thought it was a shot- everyone else said misshit cross) they equalised after a shot was (parried? by Perks on to the bar) and their striker smacked home the rebound. We could have gone two up when Elliot was sent clear and as he went to square it to Sonner/ find the far post the ball bobbled horribly and he missed the pass/ shot. They have very irritating children in bromsgrove as well.

A dire performance where all our players looked knackered. Play like that for the rest of the season and missing the play offs is a certainty. I hope dannys injury isnt too serious as we;ll need him (and hes been our best player recently)

Also thx to Simon Sweeney who was gracious enough to clap the travelling fans!

Where to start?! Firstly, Bromsgrove have one of the best ends in non-league football! A decent high terrace with colossal covering that made 20 of us sound like 200. Superb! They also have possibly the worst pitch I’ve ever seen. A slope, actually make that a hill, that was several feet difference in height from one end to the other and if you think Beaconsfield’s is bumpy you’ve seen nothing. Was that the reason we played so poor? It can’t have been as it was the same for the home team who completely outplayed us for most of the game.

Yes we might be tired with so many games recently but where’s this big squad I keep hearing about? There’s also some basic things we’re doing wrong. Radders pointed out during the first half that the strikers were playing at least 40 yards apart – that’s training ground stuff, surely? We didn’t have a single shot in the first half, not even one off target. Irrespective of anything, that’s pathetic.

We weren’t a lot better playing down the hill in the second half although the introduction of Mo did give us a bit of spark. At least he was prepared to shoot and it was from our first shot on target he scored a cracker - curled over the keeper from outside the corner of the box. Superb. Was it a cross? If it was it was a crap one as there weren’t any of our players anywhere remotely near getting onto it. Their goal was only what they deserved. Perks saved well from a free kick but from the resulting corner they blasted the ball home after Perks had parried an initial shot. Elliott had a chance that would have won it for us at 1-0 but through on goal the ball took an enormous bobble resulting in a wild air shot with just the keeper to beat. Not his fault.

As Marcus said, thanks to Simon Sweeney for at least acknowledging the fans that travelled a long way on a Thursday night. The rest of the team just buggered off and that annoys me more than the performance. That’s where the manager should have pointed them in our direction but I wouldn’t expect that from Bateman I’m afraid. Yes they might have been frustrated but so were we and at least out on the pitch they have an opportunity to influence what goes on. We don’t.

All in all one of those journey’s I wished I hadn’t made other than at least I got to see Kay and the kids after being up North all week.

A draw away from home is a good result in anyones book, even against one of the poorer teams, especially after a hard game on Tuesday. Remember guys, you are talking about part-time players not

professionals, who have dont jobs in the week. I think some of you need to wise up a bit.

I realise expectations have gone up this season but we are lucky to have Steve Bateman as a manger and the players he has brought in-

cast your minds back to the last three seasons. And none of this we should be doing better cos we've got a bigger budget crap.

As expected Jarvis has confirmed in the Slough Observer he will be resting players. No surprise there really.

Have to say I agree with Marcus and Ian. I appreciate players might be tired but that is no excuse for not acknowledging the supporters. I expect they were P***ed off but how do they think we felt.

too true Sue to the above !

Its a shame Burnham will do this but I guess we would have done the same in their position, I just hope we can do the deed ourselves and play better and get some points to join them in the play off's ..come on Slough...up the Rebels..

I personally would love to have another shot at Burnham...this season..only points and time will tell.......

A draw away last night was a good result but not for the reasons you say, Windsor Rebel. It was a good result because we could easily have lost. Remember Bromsgrove’s players are part-time too but managed to put in a decent performance last night. As for “wising up” the supporters who travelled have full-time jobs too yet don’t get paid for being there (quite the opposite) and no influence over what goes on.

So why dont you speak to Steve Bateman with your concerns in the bar after the games Ian, i am sure you will find him very approachable?

I don't suppose Steve Bateman or any of the coaching staff want to spend their post-match time specifically answering my questions about, for example, why we failed to muster a single shot of any kind for one hour last night. I don't agree with some of the players he's picked, the positions he's played them in or our approach to certain games. I fully accept however that he is the manager and should pick who he wants. He rightly has to take responsibility for that but by the same token it doesn't mean I or any other supporters have to agree or should not voice that opinion. As supporters it's the only thing we can do, other than voting with our feet.

I do think however that a 'fans forum' would be an excellent idea. I think all fans should be given the opportunity to ask the manager and coaching staff whatever they want. I'll talk to Chris and Gary and suggest it.

Sounds like a good idea Ian, I for one would be in favour of it as it might stop some of the moaning on this Forum. Let me give you an example: people were moaning why Steve Bateman

plays Elliot wide out on the left. Maybe some fans see that as non-sensical, but earlier in his career that was his postion. My point is that the manager makes his decisons for a reason,

which is not always apparent to people who dont speak to him directly. There is a lot that goes on that people on here dont know about, and just jump to conclusions without knowledge of the game

( and i dont mean necessarliy forum users)
