Wallington to retire while Maldon change their name

Tuesday 13th April 2010

MALDON TOWN will re-brand from next season to incorporate the name of Tiptree United FC – and they are looking for a new manager after Colin Wallington announced his intention to retire.

Maldon chairman Alan Brockhouse said: “Maldon Town manager Colin Wallington has informed the club of his decision to retire from football management at the end of this season.

“The club has done all in its power to persuade Colin to continue for at least another season, Colin has proved unrelenting.

“It has been a privilege to work with Colin this season. We all look forward to seeing Colin at Park drive as a supporter next season.”

Brockhouse continues: “Maldon Town are sad to be advised that Tiptree United FC do not intend to field a competitive side for the 2010/11 campaign and have therefore indicated their withdrawal from the Essex Senior League.

“It is understood that whilst TUFC will maintain it’s Senior Club’ status it will not be entering a team into a competitive competition and instead will be acting in a nursery capacity for young players and those players who are looking to forge a career in non-league football.

“In order to help preserve it’s proud history, Tiptree United FC will, from the outset of the new season, see it’s name included into the rebranding of Maldon Town Football Club who, from the start of the 2010/11 campaign be known as Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.

“In recognition of this significant event the newly named Club will be introducing a new Blue and Red playing strip and also will be welcoming a number of the Tiptree Officials and Committee members into the new M&TFC set-up where it is envisaged that their knowledge and experience of non league football will be fully utilized.

“We wish all at Tiptree United Football Club well for the future and we will remain committed to work closely with their management team to possibly effect a merger of the two clubs at some time in the foreseeable future.”

The club is seeking written applications for the vacant First Team manager’s position from highly experienced individuals with a proven record of successful first Team Management in non league football at step 4 level or above.

The Club secured an extension from its current sponsors through to 2012 and is seeking additional sponsorship from local businesses.

Least the clubs history will be kept for the fans of TUFC. Best of luck.
