Burnham 1-1 Slough

Not entirely sure what to make of that. Thought like Saturday we played pretty well again, but created few chances for all our posession. Everyone for Slough played pretty well with Adam Martin probably the best player on the pitch.

 

When they had the man sent-off we controlled the game, but with Burnham's style of play and workrate even with 10-men they are very hard to break down. Awful Ref, Huddell should not have been sent-off but the 11 (I think) who went over to top on Edgeworth defintely should have been sent-off.

 

Can't help thinking that if we won tonight and took care of our next two games, and Bury beat Sutton Thursday play-off's would have been guarenteed for sure.

 

Now looks like it could go to the final week even if we win our next two games unless Bury and Burnham also do us a favour Saturday, but think Jarvis may rest a few Saturday - and going into the final week needing something against title chasing Hitchin and a Rothwell side looking for 'revenge' after our home game worries me.

Two points dropped for me. When the game opened up after a turgid first 25 or so minutes, I thought we were generally the better side. We certainly should have made the man advantage count in the second half and we didn't test the keeper enough. I'm sure we would have taken a point before the game, but I feel disappointed with the result.

I would have more than happily taken the point before the game but am a little disapointed that we did not get all 3.

 

It should have been the 11 sent off for the challenge to Edge and only a yellow for 3 for the penalty, but I think he talked him self into getting the red by walking away from the ref and some choice words!

 

We had more of the ball and played some good football but they always looked dangerous on the break and that was where they got the freekick for the goal from.

 

The next two games need all 6 points picked up to give us a reasonable shout, but with Slough it is never that straight forward!

If we can win our next two games, which hopefully will happen, and Sutton Coldfield lose their games against Bury and Burnham, we will be confirmed in the playoffs by Saturday evening, 8 points clear with 2 games to go.

 

Good all round performance by the team tonight, a shame we could not hold Burnham off, but we knew they would be dangerous even with ten men. Neither side created that many chances, but we defended well and played quite well as a team in one of our better performances.

 

Very important that we take our chances in the next two games, we are going to need to create a lot more clear cut chances.

Slightly frustrating not to take all the points partiuclarly against ten men. But defensively Burnham were very well organised with Brett and Dunlop dominating at the back. There direct style and the tireless effort of Bird meant that they were a constant threat.

 

We did need to test the keeper more but otherwise we played well and controlled spells of the game.

 

I had a good view of 11's "tackle" on Edge and the penalty. The 11 should have got a straight red it was a horrendous horrendous challenge and Edge was lucky to walk away from that. Huddell definitely fouled Elliot and it was a penalty but I can't work out what he was sent off for. Presumably verbals?

 

We need to go again Thursday, come on Rebels.

We should have had finished Burnham off...really..but some credit to them for the defending as they did, by putting bodies in where it hurts !

 

I could not believe they were time wasting, yes they might have the points and have given up on the league title , this worries me as are they going to go all out in their

 

last 2 games or are they happy with their position now..this will not help SLOUGH, if they have given up ! to save them for the play off's ! We will see.....

I thought the team played well tonight with Adam Martin excellent in midfield.

 

 

With Burnham guaranteed 3rd spot and virtually no chance of winning the league or getting 2nd spot they should field a weakened team at Sutton on Saturday and could gift 3 vital points to Sutton.

If they do, they do. It's out of our control so no point worrying about it.

 

Slough need to concentrate on their next game and make sure they get 3 points, that's all that matters.

 

Personally a point last night was a good outcome. 3 would have been ideal, but given Slough had yet to pick up any points against the top four sides 1 point is an improvement and should give the lads some confidence ahead of the run in.

 

Slough looked in control but the goal shocked them and brought Burnham back into the game. Burnham are very tough to break down and have ground out results more than once this season with less than 11 men on the pitch.

Just wanted to add that I thought Danny Murphy was immense last night. He made an absolutely crucial saving tackle in the right back spot after Adam Martin got caught in possession and seconds later was tearing down the left wing getting into Burnham's box and was unlucky with his cross. Totally epitomised his season for me, I think he has been underrated and would be a good shout for Player of the Year.

maybe wouldn't go as far to say Burnham got out of jail due to the lack of chances we had but in fairness it was one hell of a hit from their free kick. unfortunately when you have all the ball you have to take advantage and we couldn't. brilliant last ditch defending last few minutes by Burnham. how we didn't score i do not know.

 

gotta agree about Danny Murphy. considering he seems to have been carrying an injury for months his workrate is sensational. him last night single handedly stopping a 3 on 1 attack in Burnhams favour could be vital. I believe we are extremely lucky to have 2 superb full backs in Murphy and Sweeney

 

personally i was a bit confused with Simon Martin coming off. he seemed to be making a nuisance of himself to their defence. as said maybe Buchanan should have switched inside when Martin did go off though maybe Bateman was worried they would go in quite hard on Mo had he come on. he woulda been up against Tilbury after all

 

overall its frustrating we didn't win and you could see our players were gutted we hadn't killed the game off but we have done a decent job in the last 2 tough away games defensively particularly

Before the game i would have settled for a draw, but once we scored we certainly had the better of the play especially in the second half. However, you can see why Burnham are up there:

well organised, quick on the break and the free kick was a quality goal. Still think that Bury are the best team in the league though. Wish we were a bit more effective with our corners as well.

All in all a good nights football. Roll on Bromsgrove, its in our hands now.

Id have said it was 400 at MOST! More like 340-350

 

Agree with comments about Adam Martin being superb and Danny Murphy saving our one point. For me the problem was we were playing long ball against a Burnham defence who (Especially Will Dunlop) are good in the air. We weren't creative enough.

 

 

Also 11 should have been sent off and 3 was hard done by!

As Burnham have only 120 home fans and we average 240 at home there must have been a lot of ground hoppers there!

 

The claimed 507 was over twice the largest gate of the season so far at the village football ground.

 

Did Jamie do the gate numbers as he is full of false claims as has been seen this season.
