More bad news for Grays

Recommended Posts

Grays Athletic supporters were left stunned by the news this week that the final home fixture on 24th April will be the last ever to be played at the Recreation Ground at Bridge Road in the proud 120 year history of Grays Athletic Football Club. Despite the best efforts of the departing benefactor Mike Woodward, who has been at the helm for 10 years, the Club has been unable to negotiate viable terms for a new lease with the owners, the Billings family. It is understood that the ground has now been sold to developers for housing.

However, the recently formed Grays Athletic 1890 Supporters Trust has taken up the challenge to secure a suitable relocation for the Football Club and will be launching an appeal in the weeks to come to increase membership, already past the 100 mark, to give the fans a credible negotiating voice. Trust membership applications can be downloaded from the Trust’s website, http://gafc1890.webs.com/join.htm and will be available at the ground for the Forest Green game on the 24th April. A spokesman for the Trust said” we wish to set up a new fan-based, community–led organisation , completely independent from the old regime, which will seek to develop talent through from youth level. We hope to set a realistic budget after drawing in sponsorship & donations and look to play at whatever footballing level is sustainable. We urge fans, past and present, to come in numbers to the final Forest Green game on Saturday 24th April at 3pm to celebrate 120 years of history and to show your support for keeping Grays Athletic alive. Please wear something BLUE and make it a day to remember!”

Heard rumours that at best it will be the Ryman Premier.

As long as there is a space in the division, think you can apply for any division unless you are a new or reformed club.

When we dropped out of the Conference, we initially was going to go into the Ryman Premier but because Kingy was at Chelmsford who were then in the Ryman Prem and there was a conflict of interests, we went into Ryman one north.

Which ever league they go in ( Ryman Prem or North), i would of thought that an extra club would have to be promoted to Conf. South to make room for them

Probably wouldn't be a problem as currently all the teams in the relegation zone in Blue Square Prem are from the south so Conf South would be a bit top heavy on clubs anyway.

Would be good to read but however much we hate grays,i think we need to remember that there are only a couple of hundred or so of their die hard fans left and i would bet they are just normal fans who actually love their club and non league football in general, pretty much like we were when we went bust.Ok some of you will say they as a club got what they deserved but in all honesty although i enjoy seeing them doing badly on the pitch i would not wish for them to lose their ground, that just aint fair for any fan, only the scumbags who came to the bridge a week or so after our problems waving pound notes at us,and lets face it,they weren't at the next game we played at their place

ironic really after 5 years or so after the wholesale theft of the majority of the hornchurch players it looks like we will be a bigger club than grays ,agree with rob love to see them lose but feel for their fans the genuine ones, what on earth went on their, makes our previous misdermeanors look like the mad hatters tea party
