2009/10 what went wrong ?

This season was always going to be difficult with the squad of players we initially had and the results in the first few games. You look at the season as a whole and it has to be asked what went wrong and why? If you look at the season overall we must have broken a few records on route, like the most managers in a season, 5 YORATH, SOUTHALL, ASHBY, KEISTER and now O'CONNELL. On top of that 9 different goalkeepers have played , one on loan and two that have not made an appearence. Looking at the squad YORATH had it lacked expereience and was probably weaker than the squad that finished last season. ASHBY made changes and we played better football but still did not look like getting results. O'CONNELL made more drastic changes which led to a shadow of hope of avoiding the drop, with a great run of 9 games unbeaten. You look at games and there are some we should have won like Tonbridge away, a terrible miss by Dean Grant from 3 yards near the end, this weekend to Averley and there were others. I don't think anyone individual player can be blamed for the position we are in it is down to the managers and players in the first half of the season. Too many players in the squad throughout the season that have not show passion for the shirt or committment towards MFC. We have failed to defend all season which has been a major problem. I think the squad of players we have now have shown a lot of passion towards MFC in recent weeks but on Saturday looked tired having just played 4 games in 7 days as well as having to work. We can only hope that the teams around us suffer the same fate this week and we win our last 2 games to have any chance of survial. If we do go down then Ian will have to take a long hard look at the squad and decide who really cares and can we afford to keep them. If the inevitable occurrs and we go down, how ironic is it that we will be back at the same level we were when a certain Chris Kinnear joined us as manager all though years ago and rumour is that he is to rejoin next year as direcor of football!

If we go down or not next season we have got to all stay loyal to MFC and hope that Ian O'Connell can turn thinhgs round and MFC start to reclimb the leagues again. Heaven forbid it continues to go wrong and we end up down in the Kent League in 2 seasons time.

Keep battling Gate

We haven't made Hartsdown the fortress it needs to be. Our Home form is poor, resulting in smaller crowds - so there's not an intimidating atmosphere to discourage visiting teams.

There has been a tendancy for the home support to turn on the team when we're struggling (though on Saturday that didn't happen - I think we were all shell-shocked).

Too much money seems to have been squandered by experimenting with constant squad changes. A stable team throughout the season is what we need to bring out the confidence in the players.

So my recipe for next season, is Stable Management / a more Compact and Stable Squad / Let's make Hartsdown an intimidating place for teams to visit.

With this manager and most of the current squad we will as i've said elsewhere be a force to win promotion no matter what division we are in, as for the off field team, directors, misa, helpers etc well done for all the hard work, please come back for more next season.

Let's save the summary until the season is over. Could be a very different review if we stay up, which is still more than possible. We'll finish out of the bottom four, which - all in all - would be a success given the upheaval all year.

As an aside, I don't think Ashby actually managed us this season - pretty sure that was last year?

We have not used 66 players CE!!

I think it's closer to 56...

It is 52 in the League and 65 in all competitions, bar the Gazette Cup as I forgot to put those in my records.

very very unfair on butler he was given no contract and no money ,given what iain has been given im sure he would have done equally as well but it was all too late .the buck stops at our directors for puttin the money in too late..all of the managers have done their best with limited resorces next season we will be where we deserve to be in ryman south and its going to be a very long uphill climb.

Come on he was trying to reconstruct Ashfords team thru the back door, and when he didnt get what he wanted he threw his toys out of the pram, My point in question is the one player this season that is making a difference (he s not alone - but stands out by a country mile) is Jay saunders, when MB called him he didnt even know what position he played, that shows he didnt do his homework and possibly was only going thru the motions. Didnt like his attitude to the players or the fans and IMO good riddance to bad apples. RANT OVER
