The Big Match Thread!

As the others have said the game was a bit of a non event, which is just what we wanted. The second half almost seemed surreal, I was waiting for Totton to have a real go but this never seemed to materialise, maybe they were scared of being hit on the break or maybe we defended so well they just couldn't get anything going.

Both defences played well. I can't recall either side having a genuine scoring chance all game. We had a half chance when their defender miss timed a bounce but Nathan's shot went well wide. I don't recall Totton even having a half chance, they had lots of possession and a few free kicks and corners etc but in general our midfield and defence pretty much kept them quiet.

I thought everyone played really well especially the defence and goalkeeper but Wharton stood out. He kept their best player quiet all game. The only time Gosney seemed to pose a threat was when they had a set piece.

Only their keeper will know if his stamp was intentional, it certainly looked like it but alas the ref didn't seem to think so. The only other time I've seen Fagan get angry was last season when that Truro player kept diving.

Hopefully Seeds break heals quickly and we're see him back for the start of next season. I only hope it was Seeds in that Ambulance we started chanting at whilst on the way back to the pub!

Maybe this game was built up so much that we thought it was going to be a spectacular goalfest one way or another and that whoever won was going to be the big contender for that title place. The draw kind of still leaves things in the balance. In the end like you said it was a cancel out of each other.

I really agree with the Wharton comment. I said this during the game. His marking and some of his tackling was really excellent. He was my man of the match.

Yes Fagan committed a foul but the way the goalkeeper flicked his foot to me shows intent. The problem was the ref was the wrong side of the action to see it and I think this is why nothing happened to the goalkeeper.

Seeds will be missed and I hope everything goes ok for him. I still hope he turns up to games as he is a part of the team spirit.

think you had too much ale. what about the cracking tip over the bar from the free kick and the dive to his left and tip round the post from another, both in the first half. Volley in the second that was also tipped round the post.

I on the other hand don't remember our keeper actually having to make a save all game

It all depends on what your definition of a chance is. In my mind a chance it is where a player gets the ball in a situation where you think he should score. Although there is no doubt you had some good efforts on goal which produced good saves, they weren’t in my view out and out chances to score when your player received the ball.

Likewise in my mind the Jack chance was the best one of the game, although his shot ended up nearer the corner flag it was the only occasion all game where somebody got the ball and I though "he might score here"....

Granted my recollection of those incidents might have been impaired slightly!

Anyway all football fans reserve the right to only remember their own team’s chances and disregard the oppositions.
