Slough 3 -1 Beaconsfield

Good result against a young SYCOB side who have struggled this season. Will be a much, much harder test against Marlow on Monday filled with ex-Rebels and local players. We did what we had to do today though even though fifteen minutes into the second half you were thinking please don't drop points again!!

Impressed with Adam Martin on debut. We've needed a 'Big Lad' to get stuck-in in midfield for most of the season and I thought he looked good and is hopefully the answer. Thought Mo had a decent game and agree with Ian we need someone like Mo/Tyron in the side or at least on the bench as they take on players and take the pressure off Sincs. For me though I thought our best player today was Chris Seeby, thought he looked a bit lost in central midfield on Tuesday, but excellent at centre-back today I thought.

PS: Loving the Mooooo chant by the way!!

There's good news and there's not so good news :-

GOOD - Elliott played up front and mostly in the middle. Scored twice and looked good. MoM again. Mo took his goal well. Adam Martin improved as the game went on and by the end looked promising.

NOT SO GOOD - We started with Simon Martin who was again poor - even SB decided to take him off. Sippetts however wasn't much better. Up front we're beginning to look like a one man option. Defending was dodgy at times. Perks went roaming all over the place - I'm much happier when he stays between the sticks. SYCOB were poor, so we damn well should win.

Still a win is a win and as SCT dropped two points against Romulus this result is suddenly an even better one. After a good run to catch us up, SCT appear to be faltering. Not far to go now Slough - we must get something at Marlow.

Can't say I agree with that. Agree Simon Martin did not have his best of games today but thought Sippetts played quite well when he came on and think he's probably pushed himself into a starting position for Monday alongside Elliot if Sean is still injured. Did not see anything at all Perks did wrong today, or the defence as I hardly remember them having a chance!?!

Have to agree, I thought Sippetts did well when he came on and Perks did nothing wrong and his kicking was near perfect.

With Sonner injured I would definately start with Sippets alongside Buchanan. He is an intelligent players who holds the ball up well and lays a nice easy ball off and will score goals.

solid enough performance and job done but we still threatened to make it a lot harder for ourselves than we should have

for all the ball we had we didn't really create enough but the win is all that really really matters

their goal came out of absolutely nowhere

brilliant finishes from Elliott and Mo though finally finished them off though. how many were horrified when Beaconsfield hit the post with a looping volley

thought Kean was better than normal today. fair play to Sincs playing the whole game. Adam Martin looked good but he obviously wont be staying long term. Seeby as said was very very good in defence. also think Sweeney done a very effective job without really standing out like normal other than the own goal that was unfortunate really.

think perhaps we need to be a tiny bit more creative and clinical to beat Marlow on Monday though

I do think Simon Martin gets unfair criticism from some Slough fans.It appears to me,that even if he scored a hat trick, these so called supporters still wouldn't be happy with him. However,I didn't think he had a very good game yesterday, either.

Gary Sippets,on the other hand,is an intelligent, natural footballer and always gives Slough,a different dimension.Gary Sippets and Elliot Buchanan make an excellent pairing, when we're trying to play passing football but given the state of our pitch, playing a quick flowing passing game isn't the easiest thing to do.Given Gary's injury,I think he makes a great impact substitute for who ever.Simon Martin offers us something completely different to the rest of the strikers we've got, especially if we have to lump the ball forward ie balls into box against big defenders.

I thought Adam Martin had a good debut but I am puzzled as to what Steve Bateman said in the paper about him,as he is quoted as saying 'that he is a good all rounder, likes to make and break a tackle and put himself about a bit and breaks up the opposition play'. Exactly what he said about James Duncan! who to my mind should have come on in the second half for Robbie Kean.Keano is a classy footballer[a good passer of the ball] but never wants to do any of the donkey work ie tackling! I don't think Steve Bateman gives his new acquisitions enough time to bed in before chopping and changing and his constant tinkering has made Slough look far from being a well drilled, organized side. Thus why we look no where near a championship winning side.I can't see us winning the play off's even if we make it but I hope I'm wrong !

I do think, though, next year,if we are able to keep the nucleus of this squad together and get a more consistent team and a better balance, that we are more than capable of winning the title.

We certainly made hard work of beating a very low on morale, poor Beaconsfield SYCOB side yesterday and if we can't up put teams like this to the sword, what chance against the better teams. One thing Steve Bateman did get right yesterday, was the playing of Simon Sweeney at right centre back.He totally nullified Craig O'Connor's threat. To my mind Simon Sweeney could play at a higher standard and is a tremendous asset to our side.As much as I like Dean Harper for his enthusiasm and wearing his heart on his sleeve approach,I feel he's playing at the top of his game in this division and sometimes is found wanting by his speed and his poor positional play. However,he's worth a place in this year's squad[sometimes the team] just by his no nonsense approach/never say die attitude.I also think Kyle Jeffery is unlucky not to be playing right-back in some of our games,as he has come of age and is far more mobile than Dean Harper.
