FoRM were at Preston Park today (my "saturday job" now finished until September) and saw a slightly bizarre game. Harefield as always played a lot of good passing football but a lot of it is sideways allowing teams time to get men behind the ball. Haringey rode their luck but defended well and after being blitzed for ten minutes came into the game more. They took the lead through a questionable penalty, added a second with a heavy deflection then added a third when the impressive Lloyd Opara who looked offside got through to make it 3-0. Harefield pulled one back just before half time and to be honest still had a chance but Opara netted a fourth and his third with another penalty. Hares made a triple substitution and brought three youngsters on and actually dominated the last twenty five minutes scoring once and having chances to score more. Haringey were hanging on a bit but recorded a good win.

I think the SSML hierarchy should look very carefully where Tik Tok will be plying their trade next season....... coffee%20(2).gif

Division One

2 3 Kings Langley v Cockfosters

A report on this one from another's Forum:

SSML Division One

Kings Langley 2 Cockfosters 3

Adm £3 including prog, Tea 70p

A game full of incident, if not quality, played on a rather boggy pitch - but at least they played! The home side took the lead on 20 minutes from the penalty spot, Lee Waryszniuk making the most of a re-take after blasting his first effort over the bar. Cockfosters equalised soon after with an impressive shot from distance, but Kings Langley were back in front by half time from another penalty, this time taken by Lewis Toomey.

Langley were rather disappointing in the second half, and Cockfosters took full advantage, equalising with a shot after a couple of missed clearances, and going in front with the simplest of headers from a free kick. Danny Tomkins had the chance to rescue a point in stoppage time but blazed over when clean through.

This is the first time I've been to Gaywood Park since the lights have been installed - the new stand is a vast improvement on the previous one. With the banking behind it, it reminds me a little of Coggeshall.

Premier Division

1 0 Hertford Town v Hillingdon Borough

A report on this one from another's Forum:

Saturday 3rd April 2010 @3pm

Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division

Hertford Town v Hillingdon Borough 1-0

Entry: £5

Prog: £1 (A5, 24pp)

Attendance: 76

Hertford has a large choice of pubs, restaurants and coffee shops in the town centre and my wife and no2 daughter enjoyed several of these while I went to Hertingfordbury Park, located off West Street next to some allotments and horses grazing in the next field. In the distance, there is a viaduct for the local train service.

On entry to the ground, the imposing main stand is halfway along the touchline, seats raised with the changing area and tunnel underneath. The dugouts are in front of the stand. Alongside the turnstiles is “The Stable End”, a covered terrace running behind the goal and a few steps of terracing. The rest of the ground is hard standing. The clubhouse and tea bar is alongside the main stand. Only lager and cider on draught but a good selection of ale in bottles including ‘Fursty Ferret’ and ‘Old Speckled Hen’. Cheeseburgers, hot drinks and chocolate and crisps available at the tea bar.

The first half was instantly forgettable although Hertford had much of the play. No shots on target but ‘son of Ossie’ Pablo Ardiles masterminding the midfield, only the final ball was lacking. Both sides must have had a good talking to at half time as the speed upped a gear and Hertford almost took the lead straight from the kick off, good passing down the left and low shot making the first save of the day. Hertford kept up a sustained period of attack and got a free kick just outside the area. Hunt stepped up and bent it around the wall into the corner. To their credit, Hillingdon kept on going and the match was fairly even although the score remained 1-0 even though the ref allowed 8 mins stoppage time. The trainer was on the field 3 times. Not a great game by any means but worth exploring some pubs beforehand if you have the time.
