This is the write up on the Ryman League site today. The last sentence is the interesting bit about how many will be relegated

Saunders lifts Margate out of bottom four

21:58 30 Mar 10

MARGATE moved out of the bottom four in the Premier Division with a 2-1 victory at Carshalton on Tuesday. It was the only one of eight scheduled matches in the division to go ahead after torrential rain during the day.

Two of their recent signings from Maidstone, James Pinnock and Jay Saunders, did the business for the Kent side. Pinnock put them ahead on the half-hour and, after Neil Lampton's equaliser moments before half-time, Jay Saunders got on the end of a free-kick to score the winner after 70 minutes.

It was a crucial contribution from a player who was the first man brought in by new manager Iain O'Connell. His goal not only lifted his side to 18th in the table but pushed Carshalton down from 19th to 20th, an important difference if, as expected, only three clubs go down instead of the usual four.

Well at first i thought it may be part of the implications of teams going bust, but so far they're all northern teams, can't see how that would affect us. However the word if is used, so therefore it's only speculation and i'm assuming the Ryman league are expecting teams to go bust which will affect the Ryman leagues. We'll see, As far as i'm concerned 19th place is still a relegation spot

Don't hold your breath this season BGA-historically yes-but with numbers diminishing in unibond-where most of the difficulties are-they will want to keep the numbers up in that league,so you could well see just one team being relegated from that league with no implications /knock on to the more southerly leagues.

We just need to ensure we are not in bottom four-or could get a very rude `awakening this season if relying on being saved in 19th !!

Seem to remember having this conversation before last season :)

However I am not banking on being saved now as I believe the team will get the points necessary for at least 18th and hopefully higher!

They look at the number of teams at step 3 as a whole, regardless of geography. To avoid a shortage of teams at step 3 there will be relegation reprieves, but also some teams will be shifted sideways to different leagues to maintain the numbers in each league. That won't affect us but someone like Wealdstone, for example, could end up in the Southern League if teams in the Southern League are shifted into the Northern League.

Thought i speak to someone at the league this is what they say

Mark:You can share this information with whoever you like, provided you don't attribute it to me as an official statement. I'm just guessing and going on past precedent.I was getting slightly ahead of events, thinking that three Conference clubs had folded. Actually it's only two, Chester and Farsley (so far...but watch this space!).Anyway, that should mean that there will be fewer clubs relegated lower down the pyramid; so there should be two 'saved' across the Northern Premier, Southern and Ryman Leagues. Again, that would normally be the two 19th-placed clubs with the highest points totals, and 19th place in the Ryman is way ahead of the other two. Trying to work out how the whole thing is affected by the loss of two clubs from the NPL Premier does my head in!But the whole thing will be decided by the FA so, let's be honest, anything can happen

and this is what was said in the first place

Hi Mark.

Unofficially, I'd say three at most. Can't see how it will be more, with the number of Conference clubs that have folded, though the FA will make the final decisions next month. If you're associated with Carshalton or Margate (for example), I'd finish 18th to be on the safe side!

There that's cleared thing up !!!!!
