Billericay 3-0 Waltham Forest

The team building is progressing nicely by the looks of things. Hockton scored a brace of first half goals before Andy Jones netted midway through the 2nd half. We created plenty of chances, Ansell missed a couple, and Okita had one saved. 1st half was probably the stronger line up, Justin played his first 45 minutes for us alongsdie Penn in the centre of defense. By the looks of things a few of the triallists from tuesday have been unsuccessful already, apparently we're still talking to a few new faces.

Like all friendlies of this style, another chace for the manager to see what he has got to work with as with trying to find the right set of players to play with the right style.

Of the new faces, I was impressed with Michael Black. A player with a cool head, determination and bags of skill. It would be nice if we could keep him (does anyone know where he comes from - what his history is?). Marlon (Malcolm?)Patterson again looked good and as you say Simon, Danny Hockton is looking sharp. I quite like the pairing with Gary Ansell up front. I would like to see how Danny Trenkle does just sitting behind 'em.

An entertaining game and one step further in rebuilding the team for the 2003/2004 season and beyond.

i thought we were more cohesive as a unit than tuesday and we looked a much better side than the oppo which was good. i think justin s first team squad is beginning to take shape now. reckon hunter and patterson have probably booked their places in m/f with the rest fighting for the other two places. up front hockton looks like a proper finisher to me and jones, ansell and okita all offer something different (except pure pace mebbe). think the defence may need some tweaking still, i'd be tempted to put gilley alongside justin, push russ to right back and stick henty in at left back. that said there s still plenty of time for various combos to be tried out.

the most worrying aspect of all was the appearance of neil 'razor' ruddock on the terraces...surely not.....we'd better get the bar restocked!!!

Rayn said in The Crown last night that he brushed past Mr. Ruddock (who stated that he is now BTFC through and through). I take it that he will not be washing for the whole season and those who wish to stand down wind from him when behind the goal, do so at the risk of their sense of smell ('specially after Ryan has a previous night out on the "lash"!!! - those who stood behind the goal in the second half will know what I mean - ugh, I thought Canvey had moved closer!!!!).

Interesting - 'Razor' Ruddock, is somewhat of an 'Agent' and 'friend of the family' for our Transfer listed Striker Bertie Brayley. Perhaps you might see him at New Lodge soon!

Well, I think most comments like that are to be taken with a pinch of salt. If he, he is...We have to stock our bar. if not, then jl, will have to drink more.

I think Matt, I was being light hearted and not to be taken seriously (oh dear, the season truely has started in Canvey supporters can't recognise humour)

I think Matt's looking for things that aren't there.... Justin had a few friends and family down for his first home games as manager, including Razer, who incidentally has picked his mate in this season's player sponsorship! I don't think it likely we'll be in for Brayley because he's on a decent contract at C*nv*y and I don't think we'd want to take it over! That said I'm sure Ruddock has plenty of contacts in the game and might be able to point Justin in the general direction of a player or two he might not have known about otherwise...

Danny Hockton looked sharp up front, and the ever smiling Marlon impressed again. Like Sam Taylor at right full back, thought Justin showed his experience in the first half, (don't remember him being so good in the air!) hope he makes himself first choice (ok, bit of a brown nose). I thought the passing was excellent first half, and am really encouraged for the season.

I suspect the answer as regards kits is that we normally do wear old kits pre-season. In this case 2 good reasons spring to mind 1) It doesn't matter if the kit gets wrecked 2) We had plenty of spare shirts from 2ish seasons of wear meaning everybody got 1!

According to the Echo tonight, Marlon Patterson, Niall Richie and Sam Taylor have all signed for next season.
