Essex Senior Cup Final - match off!!

The moral of this story is not to go to the pub before the game. Go to the clubhouse and leave there 5 minutes before kick off. That way the only money you have lost is on good ol' booze.

Well I had a thoroughly dry night, paid my money to get in only to be told there were no bar facilities in our part of the ground, only in the new stand behind the goal.

They refused us a pass-out unless there was an emergency. Lack of beer not being considered an emergency.

What a farce! Hopefully the rearranged match will be somewhere more welcoming.

To put things into perspective,i do believe i started a thread earlier this week about possible heavy rain.
It materialised, although when we got back to upminster, there was hardly any rain fallen,i guess we was just unlucky.
My only problem is that as i stated in the fanzine the other week,we are very quick to call off a game.
Had that been left 15 minutes, the rain would of stopped, pitch cleared, game on,or would it????
The goalmouth was a mess, the pitch in the middle was drentched but it was only surface water, but could anyone say it was going to stop when it did???

The thing for me was there must of been 4-500 hornchurch fans in the ground and another 2-300 outside with more on their way.
If they all turn up for the re arranged match,it will make their decision to open only one stand, very stupid
Also we may have one or two players back for the re arranged match, not all bad

very reasoned post!! not

What do you expect? Its a tinpot cup final being played before the end of the season. If your lucky it will be re-arranged for Roots Hall now after all the kids cup finals when they stop cutting the grass because the Shrimpers have laid the groundsman off to save cash! A look out of the window would have told you the game would be in doubt, wherever it was played. The rain that came down after 6 oclock was torrential (it was raining back in Upminster as well but i know you lot had already moved to the Eastbrook!!) At least BB was on the ball and warned you all on here that the rain might be an issue...

I just don't get what your issue is?? BB warned on here there was some torrential rain forecast which may be an issue, and hey

presto, it happened!! This is the first game at Dagenham to be called off because of water for some time, so the pitch normally copes,

and I am not sure it is Dagenham's fault if the ref then calls it off. Someone on here has already said the groundsman himself was trying

to clear it and thought he could get the wet areas cleared in a short space of time??

As for these supporters numbers, fair play to you for getting a lot of people along, good effort. Although estimates seem to range from

about 200 inside and 50 outside to 10,000 inside and 5,000 still outside!! So who knows how many were actually there, and frankly who cares. I still believe everyone would have got in the stand behidn the goal, but as someone said the stand on side was open in the end

anyway. And what happens then, people who went in there moaned they couldn't use the bar behind the goal!! Priceless!!!

I don't hold Dagenham responsible in any way. It was down to the ref. Dagenham's groundsman was annoyed, he said if the ref had given it 15 minutes the rain would have stopped and the game could potentially go ahead. Was a lot of rain though.

I put the blame entirely on the rain, and a little bit on the referee, maybe he could of waited 15-30 mins to see if it stopped, had they given it till 8.15 and still couldn't get the game on,at least they would have tried.

Sad really as the majority of the pitch looked very nice indeed.

Its always the case that with that amount of rain in a short period of time, plus showers throughout the day that pitches will get waterlogged.

Talking to one of the groundsman just after the ref called it off,he thought that it would stop soon and he could see clearer weather coming from the south, the direction the weather was coming from,he said he could clear the water from the pitch in 15 mins, saying that, the goalmouth was an absolute mess and it would of probably been a farce at times.

just like to add my tuppence worth. I got there about 6ish and the pitch looked OK and the rain had just started. By 7 it was getting worse and there were puddles on the pitch, but by 7:30 the pitch was under 1-2 inches in most places and there were much deeper puddles in the centre circle and goalmouths. I know cos I was walking on the pitch taking photos. I totally blame the rain and I was told at the time that the forecast was for much more rain to follow and that was why it was called off.

Anyhow, we should get more players back for the re-arranged game, so there is an up side.

have to agree mate, can't see the game going ahead before the end of the season so i would expect that janners would be back for a start.

Was speaking to someone the other day who told me one final was actually played pre season. Not saying that would happen but if it did would players be cup tied still, would new players be allowed to play??

That was the start of the 2001/02 season when we played Daggers in the final at their place. The final originally was supposed to be at Roots Hall but because of the ridiculous fixture pile up we had, we couldn't fulfull the fixture until pre season.

From what I remember neither side could play signings made during the summer or any triallists. Not sure about players being cup tied.

Should be interesting then if either manager has a clear out and signs a load of new players.
