Manager Of The Year 2010

Who is your vote for Manager Of The Year?

I'm going for my old mate Justin at BGU. Absolutely fantastic season regardless of what happens now. Looking at more recent additions to the ESL who have struggled, the way BGU have come in and not only competed but have the chance of winning some trophies in their first season in senior football is just incredable. Must be all the input from Key Advisor Kirk Whitelock! :biglaugh: Always knew in the right situation, at the right club Kirk would make a great side capable of winning things.

And to think after watching Justin make his debut for Eton Manor vs Sawbo and having an absolute blinder, then going from bad to worse until he was bombed, shows great managers are not always great footballers! :biglaugh:

A big well done to all the staff and players at BGU.....and no Martin 'Fat' Ash in sight! :biglaugh:

A little mention to Steve and Neil at Barking who, after a shaky start, are doing a great job and I expect them to do very well next season. Also Woodsy at MSP who is capable of getting a decent little side together with his contacts.

Don't think you can look past Terry Spillane. I knwo it's obvious "give the top team the manager of the year" but they finished mid table last season, lost Demetriou who scored most of their goals - had a few clever pick ups a couple of boys from Eton Manor, the goalkeeper from Basildon and a couple of new forwards and they are going to win the league.

It's a phenomenal achievement to win this league with Stansted - their problem now is keeping him. I believe he's come close to a couple of jobs this season already but stayed to finish the job. With the long term road block of Stansted's ground stopping them from ever going up I think ultimately Terry will want a crack at a Ryman job and who is to say he doesn't deserve that?

Has to be Gaffa for me not being biased, but he does what he does without a budget unlike the other canditates and this is he's first year at this level. The Stansted manager is doing a great job but has 5 years at this level with this club to build a team

I agree Justin. Stansted have been at this level for years and have some financial support whatever that may be.

BGU were only created a few years back and to be in with a chance of some trophies in their first full season in senior football is a fantastic achievement. I give Terry Spillane huge credit for taking a mediocre side, with little fan support and a poor ground to potentially winning the title. An excellent achivement.

As far as I know there is no budget at Stansted. Not in any way trying to knock what Justin, Kirk and their team have achieved this season either, I agree it is nothing short of sensational. But - and I know this is a big but - If Anton (not wishing to make his head any bigger! ;)) was playing up front for Stansted - I think they'd be over the hill and far away. Not saying BGU are a one man team either - they most certainly aren't but Anton is a bit special at this level.

Agree with FC Fan, Stansted's achievement this season outweigh any of the creditable successes of other clubs this term. It's all subjective, of course, but it's case of comparing achievement with expectation. I just think Stansted have excelled more than anyone in this respect.

Honourable mentions, too, for the management at Burnham, who consistently produce quality sides, Sawbridgeowrth, who have surprised everyone this time round, Takeley for showing last season was no fluke, and Basildon for somehow fashioning a team that's competitive despite the continual turnover of players.

Groyney on that basis surely Stansted would have higher expectations than Bethnal Green who are new in the league and therefore BGU achhievements are greater?

By the way I would also say that Justin tipped Stansted to do well!

The simple answer would be no.

Takeley showed last season that a well organised side, with the added advantage of being an unknown quantity, can do extremely well. I expected nothing less than a decent run from Bethnal Green.

Stansted, on the other hand, lost their leading goalscorer, and had never been anything other than average for the past few seasons. They have far outstripped any expectations. I think, at best, Silencer had them as 'dark horses' but I couldn't see anything past mid-table again.

Like I say, though, it's all subjective.

And dont forget the Bowers management.....it takes someone special to get the results they have, on their budget. wink.gif

Couple of points about the above, Tel has not been at Stansted 5 years this is his 3rd full season in charge, can you please advise where the budget is as I would like to see it.

Going on it would be very hard to choose as both have had a terrific season no matter what happens from now on in.
