This match was a double header, each ‘match’ lasting 45 minutes. So with a half time score of nil nil, both teams got one point, and with a full time score of three one, Hornchurch received another three points.

The question was asked what would happen if a player was sent off in the first half, would he be allowed to play in the second half. And when Herve Botshebe was on the receiving end of a badly mistimed tackle by Rob Stockman, it appeared that we would soon find out, but referee Colin Overall, who had an excellent game, sensibly took no action. And credit to Herve who got up immediately, which helped to calm things down right away.

In a lively first half, Hornchurch had the better of the play, their best chance coming when Pascal Maillard played the ball through to Ronsard Kehi, who ran on and hit his shot just inches wide of the post. Kehi continued to cause concern with some penetrating runs, whilst Herve Botshebe controlled the midfield, with Jonathan Spencer playing at centre half in a different role to his usual position.

Botshebe went close with a first time shot that went past the far post, and Michael Bowditch was called upon to rush out of his goal sharply to kick away when Anthony Stockman broke through.

Hornchurch looked more confident after the interval and they took the lead in unusual circumstances when keeper Jack Nevin badly mistimed a clearance and put the ball straight at FRANKIE WILLIAMS who was standing unmarked on the edge of the area, and he promptly played the ball into the net for the opening goal. A bad defensive mix up shortly after gave PASCAL MAILLARD a shooting chance in front of goal and he made no mistake with his neatly placed shot.

Michael Bowditch made two good saves before eventually being beaten by GAVIN FORBES who scored from close range after a right wing cross was played back across goal, but two minutes later the two goal lead was restored when Lee Brannan’s shot was well saved by Nevin, but the ball ran loose to PASCAL MAILLARD, who quickly followed up with a low shot past Nevin. Jim Barlow came up from defence to go close with a good header from a corner, and Maillard almost scored with a good shot from the edge of the area which Nevin saved well.
