Seven years ago, Terry McFlynn was in the Margate squad, along with Iain O'Connell, that beat Welling United 2-1 in the Kent Senior Cup Final, at Park View Road in front of a crowd of 700.

 

Yesterday, Terry, as captain of Sydney FC, lifted the Australian A-League Trophy after his side beat Melbourne Victory 4-2 on penalties in the Grand final, at the Melbourne Etihad Stadium in front of a crowd of 44560.

 

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I went to meet Terry in Sydney in 2007. Unfortunately due to a mishap (not surprized having travelled all those miles) i missed him by a week. The stadium he played in was fantastic. Great goal against Boston. Rather like Sam's yesterday.

Back to the thread though, this really is an amazing achievement. Congratulations - Sounds like a close call at 4-2 on pens.

 

Amazing that a country with a small population (comparatively speaking) can get that number of supporters to what I can only think is a sport fairly well down the pecking order (Thinking cricket, aussie rules, rugby x 2, pom-bashing etc)

As ITH says, it's good to see Terry doing so well. I always liked him when he played for us, and particularly remember his first goal (was it on his debut?). An inspired CK signing. Good luck to him, and thanks DaveS for the news.
