Dagenham & redbridge

Recommended Posts

On the football league show and fair play to them they seem to be trying to do something positiive in their community, just got me thinking, although they are a bigger club than us by far in all honesty,it shows the difference to an extent between the areas.their non racism push is admirable but i don't think we would have the same problem if we was getting the same crowds, just shows the difference a few miles makes.

Saying that,i am sure after visiting dagenham a few times to watch the opposition,it is not a football club and their fans thing but more the people who actually live in the borough, then again, havering is probably a little different, especially this end

Can't wait for the praising Romford thread.

I have been to watch the Daggers twice this season and have been very impressed by the professional way the club is run, and the behavior of the supporters who seem to me to be a real credit to their club.

It is very reminiscent of Romford but obviously on a much larger scale. For now anyway.

Hi BB - Not sure exactly what you are trying to get at.

The Club wanted to do a "promotion" with tickets etc, and I think tying it in with the anti-racism thing gave them a platform to market and avdertise this. Some fans weren't happy with it strangely, saying they thought it was to political, but at the end of the day, it nearly double the attendance and maybe/hopefully some of these people will come back, especially as it was a good game.

The club have done kids for a quids things etc in past, and while these are good, I think this will have got more publicity.

With regards to not being a proper club or whatever, I am not sure what that is based on, or what you are trying to get at there, or why this shows we are not a proper club, but there you go. I think all Clubs locally (I include us, Orient, yourself, Romford etc) are all going to have to continue to come up with ideas like this over the next few years to ensure people keep coming and watching games.

Not much to disagree with there, I picked up on a number of ideas that could benefit RFC when we return home, and I can honestly say that its a well run proper club in every sense, and a real credit to the LBBD.

At the end of the day, I think local clubs should be picking up ideas from one another, especially if they operate at different levels. For instance, I know in the past West Ham have assisted with big games at Dagenham with regards to stewarding and ticketing, and I am sure if clubs like Hornchurch or Romford ever wanted similar assistance from Clubs like Orient or Dagenham, then people at thos clubs would only be to pleased to pass it on.

As I say, these are tough times for football at many levels, and likely to be tough for a couple of years yet, and so clubs need to think outside the box and generate different ideas to keep income up. Remember, clubs aren't just competing against one another, they are competing against other sports and other pastimes generally.

With the Internet its possible to pick up ideas from any club, and not just the local ones. The problem is there is not a great deal of originality out there, possibly due to the fact that most original ideas that generate income in the medium to long term need capitol investment which is very difficult to get at the moment, especially for football clubs.

It also fair to say that many local rivals would prefer not to help their neighbors under any circumstances, even if it meant them taking a financial loss themselves.

ud me old mucker, what i was getting at but it was late in the night when i wrote it was this.

The racism problem that does exist in the borough is more outside the football club,i do not recall any racial abuse within the football ground,or none that i have read about in the press.

As for such a non racism day at hornchurch,i do not think it would be neccessary because i don't really think there are the same issues in this borough, especially at this end as the amount of immigrants that have moved into the borough is far less than that of dagenham(not saying there is no racism in hornchurch or havering, but its not on the same level).

I think you got confused when i put not a football club and fans thing, this i meant by the above when i say the racism in the borough that does exist, exists away from the football club and isn't something which the fans are tarred with.

You really should try to understand my posts more, especially as you saw me in the pub 4 hours before the post was written

Sorry BB, I have read again and see what you mean now!! Must have been them 10 pints you had affected your writing!?!?

Is a fair point. I have only witnessed a couple of racist comments and remarks in all the time I have gone over there, and these were years

ago, so you're right, I don't think there is a problem with the football club on that issue. I think though, immigration, racism, etc is a big issue in the community round parts of Dagenham. Difficult for me to comment as I don't live there, but I obviously read about the rise of the BNP in the area, and these sort of things. I think thats why the Club went for that angle, and it also meant it got a lot of media attention as these sort of topics are big news at the moment, especially with an election looming!! I saw it mentioned in 2 National Newspapers, several local ones and also on the BBC (as you obviously saw).

As you say BB, the situation in Havering, especially this end of the Borough, is probably a bit different and a day of this nature might not seem to have the same meaning or impact. However, I am sure there is another "cause" or reason you could hold a day of reduced prices or promotions, but I would guess Colin Mc and other people involved are always looking at that sort of thing anyway.

Like I say, some fans seem a bit uncomfortable at our place that Politics and football were mixed to some extent, but I have to say, there was not really that much about it on Saturday, not a load of in your face lefty stuff, and personally I just thought it was great to see so many people there, and hopefully some will return.
