ETFC v's Heybridge Swifts

Recommended Posts

The weather is improving to the degree that it feels like spring, so fellow supporters no weather excuses for not attending this one.

So grab a friend or 2-3-4-5 and attend The Face book Event Match of the Season lets make it the biggest gate of the season http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=342485728066&ref=ts

And while your at it join the promotion push too and invite everyone you know to do so too, current members stand at 270 http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=246548102324&ref=ts

Two great reasons to put yourselves out for attending, firstly, YOUR club needs us, the team also need all the encouragement they can get, secondly, Heybridge are a better team than their league position suggest and it should be a very good footballing contest. We have 5 games including this one in quick succession so every win is a vital one.

Come on the Town, no complacency, get focussed from now and be psyched up for a win and nothing less,

Certainly won't be spring-like overnight tonight..Heavy rain forecast.

I interpret overnight as being 10pm-6am, which should leave us in the clear of that forecast. Then the day should develope into a mild afternoon, we need t be positive in every aspect and hurdle any obstacles that lay before us, including the weather.

Enfield Town (1) 1 Kirby 30

Heybridge Swifts (0) 0

Attendance 217

A tense affair saw Town come out ahead by a narrow margin, but Town’s Richard Morton and Swift’s Perry Sansford both had chances to seal the game before half time. Sansford when picked out at the back post failed to make contact with the ball needing the slightest of touches, and then almost slid the ball under Town’s Darren Bonfield, but the keeper scooped clear. Morton squandered an early chance then crashed a header into the ground just in front of keeper Jamie Bowyer only to see it bounce over the bar. In between Town came close with shots from Andy Jones, drawing a fine save from Bowyer and Morton, shooting high when set clear by Liam Hope. Town broke the deadlock when Mark Kirby headed home Sam Byfield’s corner from close range. Swifts had a good chance to level just before the break, but Tom Broadhurst flashed his shot across the face of the goal.

Heybridge’s early pressure after the break failed to pay off. Bonfield did well to palm behind Steven Bourne’s long range effort and shots from Mark Crick and Reece Morgan failed to find the target. The game was almost put beyond reach when a frenzied attack saw shots from Stuart Blackburne, Liam Hope and Jordan Lockie all blocked in quick succession, Bowyer just getting a toe to the final effort from Blackburne. Adam Wallace replaced a frustrated Blackburne, but still Town could not secure the points, and as things wore on they rode their luck and relied on some good saves from keeper Bonfield to prevent Swifts levelling. They weathered Swifts best efforts though and they picked up the pace in the final 10 minutes. Wallace used his strength to force his way into the box, but his shot to the near post was easy for Bowyer, and Byfield came close firing over.

Enfield Town : Darren Bonfield, Dave Blower, Michael Bardle, Rory Smith, Mark Kirby, Richard Morton (Paul Marks 73), Jordan Lockie, Andy Jones, Stuart Blackburne (Adam Wallace 62), Liam Hope (Fabio Valenti 90), Sam Byfield.

Booked: S. Blackburne, Hope.

HeyBridge Swifts : Jamie Bowyer, Jamie Gibson, Danny Barber, Ryan O’Rawe, Luigi Fisher, Nathan Smith, Mark Crick, Reece Morgan, Perry Sansford (Steven Bourne 53), Tom Broadhurst, Ricky Griggs.

Great to hear that "Bomber" was in fine form again for you lads. Both he and Rob Blackburne are fine keepers. Sorry that I couldn't make this one as my current club are also engaged in a promotion challenge. Promise to come and support you in the play off matches - congrats on the 3 points today woot woot!!

A classic end of season'ish match if not nervy at times. We must'nt lose sight that 'Bomber' made 2-3 excellent saves and the side footed miss their striker had from just 3-4 yards out in the first half. Our possession of the ball was superior however clear cut chances were few if any. One strength that was definately evident was our threats from set pieces which in the end was the tool that earned us 3pts. I claim we deserved the 3pts today just because of The effort the lads put in and the excellent way they have represented the club this year.

One moan i'll have is we have 2-3 supporters who just don't have it in them to encourage the lads over the 3pts finishing line and would rather roar their grievances at the players because our opponents are having a good spell. We might need paediatricians on hand for them as i'll guarantee we'll have more pulse racing moments to come. Romford and Tilbury away coming up and we'll need to be up for it. only 8 games to go and 6th and 7th place teams losing today makes it a good Saturday for us.

Roll on Tuesday, you ready for us Coup????????????

It was the result that mattered yesterday (after tuesday night which is now forgotten about) and Town deserved it on their overall performance. Kirby was immense once more at the back. Morts played well in midfield doing the simple things with ease.

Match report and pictures including footage of Bomber's brilliant flying save............... the new look cold end

Not a great performance and what was very concerning was the fact that their keeper had very little to do in the second half. I wish the lads would try and hit a few more shots from the edge of the box. We looked dangerous on Tuesday in the first 20 and again on Saturday in the early stages of the match. Then we seem to want to walk the ball into the back of the net. Still, three points is three points and who cares how we get them at this stage of the season. Just as long as we make the play offs. Well done Town!!
