A report on this one:

Spartan South Midland Premier Division.

Leverstock Green 0 Broxbourne Borough V&E 1

Adm £5

Prog £1

att 19

Pretty poor fare at Pancake Lane today as Broxbourne won a very forgetful game

with a strike just after the 35min mark.

Very rural and village like feel here, friendly welcome and most of the club officials and

staff had club jackets with their names on-unusual.

Certainly one of the poorest SSM Prem games i've seen and one of the most unusual

sets of flodlights i've ever seen.

Thankfully i haven't got to walk from Apsley BR to Hemel or here again ! as cba with

getting a bus..

A report on this one sided affair:

Aston Clinton 5-1 Bletchley Town

Spartan South Midlands 2nd Division

Admission: n/a

Programme: n/a

Tea: £1 (proper cup if drunk inside)

Attendence: ~15-20

A plesant rural park setting, with plenty of parking and a large sized clubhouse block near the entrance. The pitch was the 2nd one from the clubhouse and is roped with a couple of dugouts down one side. Next door is the local gliding club so plenty of those passing overhead. One unusual feature of the ground is a wall, about 2.5 meters high and 4 meters wide which seems to serve little purpose except for graffiti - though the small shelter nearby seems a more popular target.

With no stands the hand shake was conducted in front of me as the only spectator present at the time - the officals idea.

The hosts started the brighter but didn't test the Bletchley keeper too much. It was the visitors who opened the scoring after half an hour, against the run of play, but then should have quickly increased their advantage. The real turning point came five minutes later for a red card for the visitors #6. A second booking for him (the only other card shown in the game was to his manager) which looked very soft. Aston scored from the freekick and hit four without reply in the second half. Plenty of missed chances too, including a late one from Bletchley.

Doesn't yesterday's result prove that the recent turnaround in the Club's fortunes is purely down to Lee

Division One

1 1 Stony Stratford Town v Hoddesdon Town

Attendance 45

A report on this one from another's Forum:

3pm - south midlands league one - Ostlers Lane - admission £3 incl ok programme - h/c 45, although many 'locals' avoided the paygate and used the many other (holes) entrances

Stony Stratford Town 1 Hoddesdon Town 1

I finally completed this division today, about two months later than I had planned, but that's another story. A quite basic Step 6 ground, with lights, permanent rail and a small area of cover, no turnstiles and no hard walkway around the pitch. The clubhouse is back by the car park and is a soggy walk across a cricket and another football pitch away. Admission and programme available from a gent at one of the holes in the fence, until he packed up at 3:15 anyway.

The game was of a fairly poor standard and I will not miss this league on my continuing travels. Although my plan for the rest of the season is probably mopping up the Hellenic East and so the standard of football is unlikely to improve and the facilities are going to get worse. Can't wait.

Premier Division

3 1 Royston Town v Langford

Attendance 144

A report on this affair from another's Forum, Langford are clearly missing Adam Wombwell:

Royston Town (2) 3, Langford (0) 1

Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division

Admission £5, prog £1 (72 pages), Tea, Coffee 80p

Attendance 130 est

First visit of the season to Royston who were playing their third home game of the week. A new turnstile block has been erected with the entrance to the ground now fully fenced at the bottom of the lane by the dressing rooms. Comfortable victory for the home side after scoring twice by the 15th minute. Langford not really threatening to get back on terms throughout the game. The third goal came on 55 minutes and with a triple substitution on 62 the home side coasted through the remainder of the game. Langford consolation penalty with 12 minutes remaining and they also had manager Roy Ryall banished from the bench in the second half. Ok game watched in improving weather conditions.

1 1 Haringey Borough v Chalfont St Peter

Attendance 48

Spartan South Midland Premier

Haringey Borough 1 Chalfont St Peter 1

I had high hopes of this game, the hosts had won 8-0 in midweek and league leaders CSP are usually good to watch but this was a rather scrappy affair with CSP salvaging a point with a stoppage time equaliser, it was none the less quite an interesting game to watch. It was rather like the SSML equivalant of Bolton v Arsenal and on what was an awful pitch and against a big strong Haringey side who didn't give them any time and space CSP were found wanting. The host were ahead on 13mins when poor marking allowed Adam Scotcher all the time he needed to tuck away a right wing cross and HB could well have gone further ahead before half time.

The second half was largely dominated by the visitors but they struggled to make any inroads through the home defence, HB were content to slow the game down at every opportunity and deny CSP the chance of getting into any sort of rythm indeed as the game wore on they became more and more frustrated and often resorted to hopeful long range efforts, their normally prolific front two were very well marshalled by the HB defence. Just when all seemed lost a right wing stoppage time corner was flicked on and headed in from close range by Daniel Hughes, big celebrations from the CSP players and bench, no sooner the game restarted and the final whistle was blown. HB will be gutted and we'll see at the end of the season whether this proves to be a point gained or two points dropped for CSP, it certainly keeps the title race interesting with the chasing pack all having games in hand.

As for the ground itself, well not one of the better ones it has to be said. A rather garish yellow and green stand (the club colours) is the only cover and there is hard standing with plenty of car parking space around the rest of the ground, you could watch the game from the car should you wish to do so, there had been a car boot sale earlier in the day. The ground is surrounded by housing, allotments and industrial premises. There is a club house/tea bar inside a old container, no draught beers only cans but a very pleasant lady running the whole thing on her own it seemed.
