ETFC v's Brentwood

Recommended Posts

Tonights game is no way a certain home banker. Brentwood have had a revitalisation with recent home win v's East Thurrock (2-0) and Tuesday's 2-1 away win at Lowestoft. It promises to be a tough game which our boys have to rise to. We got away with a somewhat mixed performance v's Thamesmead Town and that is a wake up call to take nothing for granted in any match before us.

The players have said to me they enjoy the encouragement and banter of a noisy ETFC crowd and that it does inspire them right to the end of the game, so lets not disappoint tonight, get your winter warmers on folks for a rare first team outing on a Thursday. If we want success we have to be seen and heard, I'm looking forward to this one.

Good result against a very capable Brentwood side who will be disapointed not to get something from game. Andy Jones's goal was brilliant. It was an all round resolute defending in the second half which claimed the precious three points for Town. Now in 3RD place which makes great reading!!

Any news on the Blackburne's??? Both of whom came off with knocks.

Read the match report on THE COLD END which includes footage of the Clearance off the line by Brentwood following Stuart's great header. I MISSED BOTH GOAS WHICH I APOLOGISE FOR..ESPECIALLY JONES'S ONE WHICH WAS A MOMENT OF MAGIC!!

I disagree with your comment (Cold end) that it was not an entertaining game. It was a tense game which added to the thrills. I also thought, contrary to the view expressed to me by one fan yesterday, that we were the better side. We created more chances than Brentwood which should have been put away.

In the first 15 minutes Brentwood played forward with their back line defending on the half way line. As the game wore on it became apparent that this tactic was not going to work so Town began to get the better of the game as Brentwood defended further back. At the time I thought that there goal was against the run of play as we were getting into our stride as demonstrated by AJ superb run and shot a few minutes later. As we pressed following our goal the Brentwood defence looked increasingly fallible and it looked as though with better finishing we could have gone in at half time 2 or 3 up.

Second half was almost a rerun of the first as Brentwood again came out determined to pull the goal back but the centre half who was crocked towards the end of the first half allowed a substitution of lanky number 12 who tamed Stuart to a degree. As the game wore on Brentwood pushed more men forward but AJ and RM commanded the middle. Brentwood's only dangerous moment was when Jason and Craig got in a muddle as Jason, it appeared, did not want to pick the ball up following a back pass. But even here Craig was up to it and cleared off the line.

I thought that Hope had one of his better games and was named MOM but I would have given it to AJ if only for his goal.

I thought Brentwood were an equal to us in general but we were the more capable in creating the openings. Brentwoods goal came from a Gio (I could'nt see the ball in the glare of the floodlights'Mackay C0ck up and the next best chance was the nearly OG GM and JH dealt up. The massive improvement for me was the heroic defending we were water tight(ish). Well done lads a hard fought win which from effort we all enjoyed and deserved.

My MoM would have been Kirby/Lockie but saying that Hope's game was an equal and deserved, he is an unselfish player who is capable of scoring more regularly
