Gavin Smith would like your help....

For anyone that does not already know, I had a baby boy called Oliver who was born 16 weeks early weighing only 1lb 6oz. His chance of survival at such a young age was slim, but thanks to the amazing staff and facilities at St Peters Hospital in Chertsey he is now 7 weeks old and making progress everyday. He still has a long way to go and will be in hospital for a total of around 4 months.

In order to give something back Olivers two uncles are running the Fleet half marathon and we are asking for your support to help raise money to provide the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit with equipment which is vital for the survival of such small and vulnerable babies.

Many thanks

Hope everything continues to improve for the Junior Royalist! Myself and Matt Stevens are already organising a bucket collection for the next home game on behalf of the supporters club to reach the Windsor fans who dont read the forum.

Best wishes.

Good work there Woody.

Best wishes to Gavin, Emma-Jayne and Oliver.

My first born was 5 weeks early and stayed in Special Care Baby Unit for 18 days - that was an emotional time for us, but nothing to what you guys have been through. It's amazing where the strength comes from to deal with it all but those ladies (and the odd gent) in SCBUs are something special and give so much support. (You'll almost be sad to see the back of them when Oliver goes home!)

Just wanted to say a premature : ) thank you to everyone for their support and donations.Special thanks to Woody,Dan and Matt for your help in organising a collection at tomorrows game.

Any donation big or small is very much appreciated and is going to a great cause and remarkable people who really are miracle workers.

At the moment things are ok with Oliver, although as I write he is having his 11th blood transfusion.I wanted to post this early just in case I can't make the game tomorrow as things can change very quickly in the life of such a small baby, but as things stand I look forward to seeing you all at the game for another victory and hopefully a long overdue goal for myself.

Thank you

Gavin,Ej,and Oliver

I'm not sure the bucket got around to everybody. Certainly, I was not approached. Maybe because I was moving around the ground!

Will organise a bucket on Saturday and put the dosh into the link at the top here. And, profound thought, I said in my report the lad disappeared second half. Knowing now what I did not know then, he has probably not had as much sleep and rest as you'd expect. Respect to him for turning out in such difficult circumstances. Will now check for updates and hope to read of a fully successful outcome. All the best. It puts things into perspective, eh?

Took a bucket around The Corinium today - got £91.62, in all sorts of pennies, change, whatever; there was a very generous and unstinting response. Was very very gratified that way more of our fans than came to your place gladly dipped into their pockets and chucked something in.

A sour note - Totton brought at least a couple of dozen; one lad understood entirely what I was talking about and he 'made' all his mates around him chuck in at least a Maggie (small, shiny, thinks she's a sovereign ..) But, pissed me off no end that of the 8 only of the 154 who point blank refused and asked me to Do One, 7 were Stags. And, much to my shame, one of ours. But there you go, it takes all sorts.

Half way round, met yr Asst Manager; who told me what happened Friday. Really upsetting; but he encouraged me to finish the round and I'm going to email yr Sec and somehow we'll find a way to get something to youse. Feel for Mr Smith and his missus - there is nothing one can say except they have our thoughts with them and I'm sure with your help the pair of them wil pull through. Sad day, such a sad day.
