Awesome table

Pausing for reflection, how good is this?

19 points clear.

82 points when the closest pursuer is on 63.

+58 goal difference, 15 goals better than that same chasing team.

13 goals conceded when only two other teams have let in less than 37.

It's still nothing like certain, but we're giving Totton a mountain to climb just to be in with a sniff of overtaking if we lose a few games - which we haven't yet - and no other team, even if they win all games in hand, can get within ten points of us.

All in our hands, now...

<edit> and Totton won their semi-final tonight (3-0) so have a cup final to fit in somewhere. Probably after the play-offs but it's still another match to consider and one they'll want to win.

VT FC also won their semi-final for the SL Cup so although we face them in a few weeks they may have attention diverted...

Interesting that last year we played extra games getting into the county cup final and were knackered going into the play offs. Totton have done amazingly well keeping in touch but it will catch up with them. Hope its an omen they win their county cup but come second.

Coming second though means nowt in the lottery of the play offs when last season Diddy did the business. i fancy a team to make a late surge to sneak promotion. two more wins will be enough for us i think.

I totally agree. A fresher team will likely see off Totton in the play offs.

It's very hard to predict with up to seven games' difference between teams... maybe Paulton will benefit from having fewest games carried forward (assuming they're still in the top 5), but Totton's home record is actually better than ours: so home advantage could make a real difference to them, or at least it looks as though it has so far.

VT FC look like another team to watch, theoretical chance of being on 72 points from games in hand, but like Totton the volume of late games might be just too much despite how well they've done so far.

Of course, I seem to recall a team doing superbly with a run of late games a few years back and just clinching a promotion place :yeahthat:

Indeed back in 2001 we won 13 and drew 1 of the last 15 games to sneak promotion.

Dare I say back then we had a much heavier fixture backlog than Totton do at the moment.

I think our fixtures for the last 2 weeks of the season went something like this.....Sat, Tues, Thurs, Sat, Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat

It really was an amazing effort.

A quote from the match thread,

'Had a word or 2 with a couple of Gosport players and although they were gutted there is a collective desire to see us beat Totton to the championship, so they wish us well. '

As I have said before. That is bound to make all the difference smilewinkgrin.gif

Let me just explain.

Gosport, PO (Portsmouth postcode)

Totton, SO (Southampton postcode)

it is a bit like (if all in the same division) a Windsor chap telling me that he hoped we beat Slough to the title. I am sure you can relate to that !!

Actually, while were on the tittle tattle, A Cinderford chap told me he hoped we caught you as you were too cocky !

Seriously though, it is a huge ask and yours to [****!!****] up (oopps, seems I cant use the male hen word). I am confident though that we will be breathing down your necks just in case you do.

I do believe, that although play offs are a bit of a lottery, we have the squad to get us through as long as there are not too many injuries.

FYI, the county cup final is not until 22nd April

If you catch and pass us with that run in your team will well and truly deserve the title. And ours will probably deserve stringing up from the Chicken Run roof!

I suspect you will do extremely well to get 6 points from the top 3 games in the list...

That's certainly as tough a sequence as you could imagine - 6 of the other 7 teams at the top of the table (missing only Frome), inside 15 days, with four of those away.
