Official Site - Potential Down Time

Following on from re-doing the squad page to accommodate the fact that some players have got away shirt sponsors, this has caused all sorts of conflicts over the site. I am gradually working through all the code to see what is causing the problem but the only way I can really do this is by changing bits of code and seeing what happens!

 

As I am doing this things may look a bit strange on the site, or it may even disappear completely for a while but I am hoping to get it all sorted this evening (best laid plans?).

The main areas of the site appear to have been fixed but I am still having a lot of problems with some areas. This could go on for a few days.............

I have been working on this again all day and it is really doing my head in........but the squad page is usable now, but not very good.

 

The trouble is that the original infrastructure was not set up by me so I am never sure what code changes may affect elsewhere on the site. The ideal thing would be to start again with the format codes (css style sheets) but that would take far too long and I plan a complete overhaul in the summer.

Just a small point. Is there any chance of putting a link on the home page to the current season's fixtures and results? It's the page most people visit a lot, and as it stands you have to do several clicks, which is a pain.

The intetion is to undertake a redesign of the site over the close season - there's just to much that goes on during the season and as Steve has said, the site has been established for some time now - and we'll look at these issues on a more permanent basis then.

As Wellsie said, the intention is to completely revamp the site over the summer so any of these suggestions are more than welcome. A lot of work has already gone on behind the scenes in preparation of this to make the 'back-end' of the site more functional.

 

There a lot of things that I had hoped could have been added to the existing format of the site but, as we have all noticed in the last few days, as I did not set up the original structure I am not overly sure what little tweaks will affect other areas unintentionally.

 

Nearer the time I will do a post asking people to let us know what they would like on the site and even if they have seen something on another site that works well so we can put together something that looks good but remains functional and easy to use.

 

But for now it is time to make a coffee and try to fix the bits I broke!!! Once again things may become disjointed or disappear at times while I am tinkering.

Everything on the site should be back to normal now. If there are any problems still then let me know.

 

There are a few updates that I am about to do to the squad page such as adding Leroy and amending some changed sponsors but I do not think that will break anything else!!

Would just like to say thanks to all those working hard to update and promote the site, it is immeasurably better now than it was.
