Sponsored Walk - Trekking to Romulus

Ian

Recommended Posts

Try again.

It isn't far away now (well obviously its still 102 miles but you know what I mean)

The sponsor forms should be available later this week, we have driven the first two days of the walk this morning.

As there are so few of us doing it this year, we will really appreciate as many people as possible trying to raise sponsorship for us, so please take a form and hike it round work, your family, friends etc.

Beside the Club, Slough Crossroads, Caring for Carers will benefit from the walk.

Crossroads provides respite for people caring for the elderly, sick or disabled at home. Many of these carers are elderly themselves and have little, if any time to themselves. They also run a Young Carers scheme to aid youngsters carng for sick or disabled parents or family members.

Without this unseen army of carers the whole social care system would grind to a halt, yet they get little recognition or support in their role. Having worked for this organisation several years ago, I can honestly say that it is such a worthwhile cause as it provides a lifeline to so many people who are faced with a 24/7 committment to care for those they love, often single handedly.

So please help us to support them by sponsoring the walkers, that way we can raise as much as possible for our Club and a very good cause.

Thank you

This is such a great cause - I can't encourage people enough to get behind the walkers. Personally, i'd like to donate a tenner to each of the three intrepid travellers - so there's £30 to kick start you guys.

Kay, has anyone spoken to the local press yet? If you need a hand sorting out some extra coverage, just shout and I'll see what we can do at our end to try and raise a few extra quid.

I'm shamelessly and deliberately keeping this thread at the top of the list. Three people are going to walk 110 miles on behalf of a fantastic charity (Crossroads) and also the Supporters Trust. A HUNDRED AND TEN MILES!!!!!!!

I think we need to keep that message in people's faces so we raise the level of sponsorship that Kay, Martin and Radders deserve for their efforts.

Message for Martin and Radders,

On second thoughts, maybe we should set off on Monday. Ian is away, but I could leave after I've done the school run (say 9.30 and walk til about 3.

I can get kids picked up from school as long as I was back at a sensible time ie 4.30 ish.

Then from Tuesday Ian is around, so am more flexible.

We could get about 15 miles out of the way and make the rest of the week easier. What do you both think?

I will have a look at the route tonight and see what I can sort out with accomodatation from Thur and Fri

Sorry, I know I am being indecisive but that is female perogative

Sounds good to me Kay, I think it makes sense and can definitely start on Monday. Is it wrong that I am strangely looking forward to this?

I have just emailed Patrick at the Slough Observer about the walk, so we can get a photographer there for the start on the Monday.

If he manages to get to one of our matches, I will get him to come over and chat with one of you. Otherwise I can pass on start times etc to him by email.

I am looking forward to it too. No school run, no bickering kids, no lunch boxes to make for a whole week. 100 odd miles seems like a small price to pay to me.

Ian will be after joining us by day 2.

Gary - I would say start about 9.30 as on Monday I do have to do the lunch boxes and school run.

Having completed the walk we now have to do the hard part, which is to collect the money.

Could I please ask that people come and find us on Saturday and at the presentation nigh if you sponsored us. It is quite difficult, as although I know faces I dont always know the names that go with them to actually ask people for the money.

It would be great if we could get all the money in quickly and pass it on to the charity early in the season.

Many thanks to everyone for the wonderful support and good wishes we received.
