WEFC 4 - Paulton 0

and WHAT a free kick, surely another contender for goal of the season... the goalie might have seen it all the way but he just couldn't stop it, instead his tipping it into the bar just made it more spectacular. Superb.

Am I the only one who thought the goalie should have seen straight red for that body-check on Chenns? OK, it was outside the area but he was through and the defence were nowhere, the ball was already past him and he knew Chenns had him on pace - so he just turns and ducks right into Chenns' path, sending him flying. Anyone but the goalie would surely have been sent off immediately, but the goalie shouldn't get special protection for something like that.

As for the rest of the game, well, the first half (that 2-minute goal aside) was pretty forgettable IMO. We didn't look special, wasted a couple of chances not least an absolutely gorgeous cross right through the defender's legs from Joe (though Chenns again was so unlucky with his shot off the post, 1cm to the left and it would have bounced in not out) and there were a few crowded scuffles in our goalmouth. Still, Paulton weren't able to penetrate well, they were moving fast and putting the ball about but I didn't see any dangerous breaks and Rob was never really in trouble. Second half also we looked a bit ill at ease at the back, maybe the defence wasn't quite gelling without Fagan? But our attacks were far better, and once Seeds broke the deadlock the result was never in doubt.

Gavin looked better than last time I saw him, Chenns seems to get faster every time, Fagan when he came on looked good even with his hand in plaster, but for me MOM this week between Bruce or Seeds - good way to mark his return.

Totton also won 4-0 at home to Bishop's Cleeve. The gap stays steady.

Very tough and tight game for the most part. For the first 5 minutes and the last 15 we looked like we could score with every attack, but in between it was very even, and actually, although Paulton seemed to lack a real threat in front of goal, Bullivant had far more saves to make during the game than their 'keeper.

But in that spell where we broke them we were bleedin' awesome.

Fagan is absolute class, a rock in defence but a more than capable midfielder - so calm in possesion, deceptively quick and I love the way he just ghosts pasts the full back when he's on an overlap. My POTS.

Wilson's free kick was something to behold - we had no idea he was going to go for goal, he just seemed to stride up ready to deliver the ball into the area then suddenly the ball seemed to accelerate in mid-air like an exocet and thundered onto the underside of the cross bar and over the line.

Chennells could easily have bagged another hat-trick today and I should imagibe he'll be feeling a little disappointed he only got the one. His mazy dribble late on where he left 3 defenders spinning in the turf deserved a goal but the 'keeper made just about his only proper save of the game.

Woozley had a very steady debut - looks strong and assured with a no nonsense approach.

I thought the yellow card for the 'keeper was fair enough at the time, but do take your point that if any outfielder had taken out a player with that type of challenge he would quite possibly have seen red.

A very impressive win. That was some free kick. I was behind the goal and didn't see that one coming! Would have been a travesty had it not gone in, that's for sure. W&E looked much better when they picked up the pace. Fagan's run that led to Chenns chance second half was worth the entrance fee alone! Disagree about the call for a red card. Too far out wide. Referee got that one right.

Oh, I'd agree there wasn't a cast-iron goalscoring chance (although I think Chenns would have put it in easily enough had there been no foul): but I was meaning there should have been a red for deliberate foul play... the goalie knew the ball was past him, and that he was just outside the area, so he took out the player instead.

It would of been red if it want the goalkeeper. It was an appaling 'tackle' that could of broke a leg .The punto was going mental thats all you need to know!!

Great performance .Some may say 4 flattters us but how many times can people say that until they realise we are just better? Chenns had 3 good chances to add to his tally so it could of been a rout! Excellent work.

Two more big games coming up. No reason we cant get 6 points however!

Oh and can i add...What a bloody goal!!!! The best i've seen in the flesh!

Think you answered it there and then ;-) There is Serious Fould Play or Violent Conduct - or at least there was when I reffed many many years ago. What surprised me was there there was far more verbal from the players today compared to the two other games that I have seen. Would that have been because the referee was known to be lenient? On a slightly more serious note, and not wanting to sound like Mary Whitehouse, W&E FC are doing great things to encourage youngsters along. Will parents really want little Johnny and Jemima to hear players effing and so on?

Amazing performance today. I thought we looked in control for most part of the game. I think the thrid and fourth goal left them a bit shell shocked. For a team in 3rd place I was surprised by the score. They obviously did not spend their FA Cup money as wisely as they could have :) A lot of people before the game were sure this was going to be hard game and possibly our first loss of the season. How wrong could they be! Bruces goal was stunning and will stay with me forever especially as we were in line with it behind the goal and saw how strangely that ball moved before it went in of the bar. Truely stunning. I know Seeds and Bruce had brilliant games but for me Gavin Smith was man of the match. His control of the ball and passing today was articulate and the unselfishness of the passing across to Seeds to put in his second showed how great his awareness was. He would have been weel within his rights to shoot at that point in the game. More games like that please :)

Award for most stupid thing said on here goes to Humpty! Perhaps no spunking their cash on wages is the best way to go LONG term and use the cash to build the club up? Think about it!!!

TB- Didnt notice the swearing from the players myself but perhaps i'm just used to it/not offended by it? Over 20 kids down the meadow again and thats with some of them missing. It's good for the future for sure even if only 5 or 6 of them become 'active' supporters in the years too come

Woody, whatever I would have said on here you would have found something to moan about.

You've always had it in for me and that's why I don't write on here as often as I would like to.

I wasn't serious about what I was saying as you may have noticed the smile at the end of the sentence.

I know that teams have to be sensible with their money at the moment esecially in the current climate.

Ah well I'll got back to being a spectator of this forum again.

Thanks Woody.

Thanks Windsorian but Woody has a knack of being on my case all the time.

Whether it is on here or at a game. It's like you can't have your own voice or opinion.

He just belittles me and makes me feel crap.

I try to be grown up and ignore it but it just gets me down.

I have tried to be nice to the bloke but he just chucks it in my face.

I give up.

Talk about making a moutain out of a molehill!

I can only hope you've had one to many ales. For the record weather it was my browser or the forum playing up but smily face wasnt there when i posted what i did. Now it is see you was making a joke and i would of said what i did. Point stands though. Paulton are a VERY well run club and if they can get 250-300 fans they could easily do well a level above.

You seem to take things to heart very easily paul .Far worse 'banter' goes on behind the goal every game and in the punto. Either realise its banter or go back to the chicken run as it seems to rub you up the wrong way! May seem harsh but if it makes you 'happy' do it! I for one couldnt give a flying frig where you stand! Post if you want post if you dont. I dont care either way.

No ale drunk just fed up with your cr*p.

Try speaking english as I have no idea what you are saying.

I have no problem with Paulton or how they run their club.

It was a light hearted joke that that you actually made a mountain out of a mole hill about.

Most people have banter Woody but you are just abusive and go against what people say for shock value.

Maybe it is a cry for attention I don't know.

I will stand and post where and when I want. I do not need your permission.

Woody i can only assume from your emoticon with the coffee that you had one or two too many shandys, that is why your post at 1.00 am makes no sense. When you have sobered up and re read your posts if you are anything of a man you will apologise for being a plonker. :signthankspin:

If you wish to carry this on see me tuesday and we'll talk face to face. No one wants to read this on here as its way off topic!!

What's the point. It won't resolve anything. It will just be more of your snide remarks.

You made it go off topic by attacking me. Maybe you should think about what you write on here in future.

Jeese... Did anyone know that Oliver Brooks Paultons only recipient of the Victoria Cross is buried in Windsor.. His recommendation read..

"6738 Lance Sergeant Oliver BROOKS, 3rd Bn Coldstream Guards

For most conspicuous bravery near Loos, on 8th October, 1915.

A strong party of the enemy having captured 200 yards of our trenches, Lance Sergeant Brooks, on his own initiative, led a party of bombers in the most determined manner, and succeeded in regaining possession of the lost ground.

The signal bravery displayed by this non-commissioned officer, in the midst of a hail of bombs from the Germans, was of the very first order, and the complete success attained in a very dangerous undertaking was entirely due to his absolute fearlessness, presence of mind, and promptitude."

Says me trying to change the subject..... :coffee (2):
