7 Just Fontaine (France)

8 Walthamstow Avenue

Not Beckham....technically Fontaine, but his final goal came in the 3rd/4th play-off in the '58 finals... and not Walthamstow Ave either... they did play Manchester United in 52-3.. the question was nearly played and they were nowhere near as famous as the Avenue....The side I am looking for did win the Essex Senior Cup twice...

And the answers are.....

1) Name the UK cities to host more than one European/Champions League semi-final?

London (Arsenal, Chelsea & Tottenham), Glasgow (Celtic & Rangers) and Dundee (United and Dundee)

2) Who was the first non-UK manager of a Premier League club?

Dr. Jozef Vengloš - Aston Villa (threw a curve ball on this one as the question should have said top flight club, not Premier League)

3) What connects these teams: Man United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Everton, Coventry and Accrington Stanley.

They are the only sides from the current 92, not to have been involved in play-offs within or to the Football League

4) and what connects this little lot too: Lincoln City, Accrington Stanley, Aldershot, Walsall, Hartlepool and Southend.

They are the only sides from the current 92 to have never played at Wembley in any competition

5) Which player, who went on to make nearly 250 Football League appearances, scored the first away goal ever conceded by Hornchurch in the FA Vase?

Phil Walker, who scored the only goal of the game for Epsom & Ewell in the fifth round in 1975, before moving on to Millwall.

6) Why did India forfeit the right to play in the 1950 World Cup finals?

As Bird Brain rightly said, they were refused permission by FIFA to play in bare feet

7) It is an urban myth that Jairzinho is the only player to score in every round of the World Cup finals.. Who is the other?

Uruguay's Ghiggia in 1950. True, Juste Fontaine scored in every game for France in 1958, but they didn't reach the final

8) What local Essex non-league team (now defunct) were drawn to play Manchester United in the FA Cup, but lost in a replay thereby missing their chance.

South Weald. As to where they played and it what league I know not the answer. But in 1905-6 they drew away to Staple Hill - from the Bristol area - 0-0 in the 4th Qualifying Round, with the winners drawn at Manchester United. Unfortunately for Essex history, the Weald lost 1-4 at home in the replay and never entered the competitioin again.

9) Which player has played the most games at Wembley (Finals, internationals, etc)?

According to my sources, it is one Tony Adams - 60 times.

10) Coca-Cola, Nationwide, Endsleigh, Barclays, Canon and which other company have sponsored the Football League?

Again, Bird Brain came up trumps here and indeed it was the defunct national paper, Today, who sponsered the FL for the 1986-7 season.

Thank you and good night.. :bolt:
