BOOT HANDED ANOTHER CHANCE

Former Southend United striker, Tony Boot, is being given another opportunity at the professional game after being handed a trial with Nationwide League Division Two side Colchester United.

 

Boot, who started his career with Southend before haiving spells with Harlow Town, Windsor & Eton and Welling United, joined Ryman League Division One side Slough Town at the start of last season and ended the campaign as the Rebels' top scorer.

 

Now the 22-year-old has been offered the chance to impress new Colchester boss Phil Parkinson, and started well enough by scoring in the pre-season friendly at AFC Sudbury.

 

Boot said: "Phil Parkinson is putting me right up there with the first-team. I obviously attracted a lot of interest with my goals for Slough last season."

It was obvious really that he was to good for this level, however i didn't expect a Div 2 team to come in for him??!!

I don't rate him that highly. Yes he scored a lot of goals for us last season but he struggled for a couple of months at Slough before the ball hit the net and he wasn't anything special at Windsor or Harlow. Good luck to him, but I think Division 2 football may be a bit too much

lloyd owusu anyone? i really thought that he should get 20 goals in the league but doubted he could. he proved us wrong and so the best we can hope is that Tony does well (even if we don't get a fee for him because of our [****!!****] incompetent chairman)

According to the Colchester site Booty is not in their squad to face Charton. I personally think he has the skill to play in the league and the finishing ability - I just think his height could be a problem against the massive 6 foot plus defenders in the football league.

 

Wish him well though and if he does not go anywhere I hope he comes back!

it could have been directed at me, because there seems to be a massive gulf in class between ryman div 1 and nationwide divs 2 & 3, but in reality it's probably all in the fitness. oh to have a club not run by a lobotomised sloth...
